Film School Rejects: Man Shoots and Kills Himself During ‘Watchmen’

This really doesn't even make sense to me.

Yeah I have to agree it doesn't make much sense at all. I honestly didn't know that many people didn't enjoy the film. I thought it was the most gritty superhero movie I had ever seen, but at the same time a superhero movie with the least amount of action I had ever seen. The thing that confuses me is why would he kill himself in this movie. As many bad films that have been out & are going to keep coming out why not pick one of them. I mean Pounder Blue or whatever its called had plently of sucide in it. Why not all these shitty spoof movies & make a point so tthey will stop coming out. Why a good movie?

If I was sucidal I would have done it in "Kicking & Screaming". Horrible, only movie I have ever walked out on.

Its bullshit like this that creates haunted movie theatres. Maybe this selfish turd wanted to haunt this theater so he could watch movies for free for eternity ???

Whatever, couldn't you have shot up the Monsters vs Aliens screen while shouting, "Death to 3-D, and Disney!!". Peckerhead!

    O. well,,, I don't feel sorry for this guy he no longer has to deal with this stupid human drama game,,, and he took his problems into a public area. Have some respect for us that don't want to eat a bullet. Thanks!

Maybe it had nothing to do with the movie. RIP, Suicide Guy.

I agree with you, I don't think it had anything to do with the movie. I hope this does not start a trend. Can you imagine if the bullet exited the target and hit some innocent person as well.

Yup. He wouldn't have carried a gun thinking, "Hmnn... if the movie turns out to be bad, I'll shoot myself in the head."

Thanks for not making any puns or jokes. Suicide is a very serious sad state-of-mind.
  • Hamster · 7 months ago
Seems like some people assume it's the quality of the movie, but it's also one of the bleakest mainstream movies to come out in a long time, that seems the most plausible reason to me.

"We could make a joke..., but... the more we think about this whole situation the less funny it becomes." ?!?!

RU kidding? So if you didn't take time to think about it, it would be funny?

Yes - Watchmen is under-performing financially.
Yes - some guy committed suicide during a showing of Watchmen.

Mentioning these 2 things in the same article (while denouncing any humor in it) just makes it a candy-ass, passive-aggressive suggestion of the joke without actually admitting to it.

Either be callous and make the crude joke linking the 2 things, OR conscientiously report the news of the apparent suicide without any mention of the financial flop. Mentioning the possibility of a joke and then saying there's nothing funny about it is barely a half-step better then just making the joke period.

For the record, i'd prefer you just reporting the suicide w/o the joke. This is the first post on FSR i've actually found distasteful.

Sadly, I have to agree. Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that we're not just a news gathering organization, that we are encouraged to editorialize. Hinting at the joke is only encouraging talkbackers to make jokes now, and that's truly disheartening.

was he that sad that they changed the ending of the movie from the original ending from the book?

As first posted by "srsly", I think 'distasteful' is exctaly the word I'm looking for. Sorry if this topic was handed down to you, Ms. MacGregor, becuase I don't find this newsworthy or applicable to a website suuposedly centered around reviewing film, but you could have handled the assignment better. Here's hoping discretion and care are taken with other sensitive topics in the future.

I have to admit I hated this movie too...he was probably a diehard fan....who else would go to a midnight showing on a 12 oclock on Sunday...this crappy movie isnt even playing in my theatres anymore where i live..there is a part of Watchmen fans that hate this movie...and us watchmen fans are alittle funny to begin with...i feel bad for the guy but there was probably other mitigating factors that caused this..but the bad movie might have pushed him over the edge.
