The subtitles probably weren't changed; My guess is the whole film was translated again by another translator. The inclusion of "Matte!" in the DVD screencap suggests that the spotting was different, which supports this theory.
I owe a significant chunk of my livelihood to the fact that many films get translated more than once.

Sucks. Reportedly, the terrible dubbing on the dvd follows the original dialogue... so you can choose fantastic dialogue with bad acting, or great acting with idiotic translation.

This makes me very sad. It also makes me regret not swiping the dvd screener during my visit to the FSR home office last week. Ah well, time to go.

You can determine this by watching both versions side-by-side. You'll probably find two utterly different translations.
I owe a significant part of my income to the fact that movies often get translated more than once.

What interests me is how often people will say these kinds of things, like the second translation being "wrong," when nobody really goes in to find out which translation is actually more correct.

This happens in anime often. A fansub will come out, everybody loves it. Then the official sub will be released, the lines will be different, and everybody vilifies it because it isn't what they remembered. But when somebody who actually speaks the language takes a look they find out that the second translation was actually more correct.

I would like to see any movie with a correct translation, I don't really care about what came first or what people like. I want to know what the writer wrote and what the actors said. Sadly, that's part of why I prefer subtitles, because I can hear the original acting and tone.

funny, when i encounter lame ass translation its usually the other way around, from english to swedish. havent seen this one though, but im curious of what they really say now. i wanna know what line in swedish could possibly be translated to both 'you can jerk off at home' and 'time to go home'.

That doesn't make sense. If you go to the source (Icons of Fright) in the last comparison Haken calls out Eli's name (which should translate pretty clearly) but the new subtitles read "I'm trapped." Where did you hear that the new dubbing is more correct?

I haven't confirmed it myself, but commenters on several sites have claimed that is the case... Dread Central, Shock Till You Drop, DVD Talk, and even Icons Of Fright all have people saying the dub, as terrible as the voices are, is almost identical to the original subtitles.

This is said: "Taja kan du göra hemma"

"You can jerk off at home" is the right translation. Word by word: taja=jerk off, kan=can, du=you, göra=do, hemma=at home

It is true that the translation word by word is "You can jerk of at home". In Swedish you can say that sentence in an emphasize which would definitely mean "It is time to go home" with a touch of rough jargon more than the literal meaning. Is this possible in English as well?

Here's what would be nice: If someone just posted a link to an srt or sub file of the original theatrical release. That way, someone like me could create a DVD with the two translations side by side for comparison. Or alternatively, anyone could grab an avi of the movie and run each translation separately to decide what's been missed.

I have a translation by a Swedish friend that I'm currently fixing (removing typos and grammatical mistakes) to use until everyone sorts this out. I'd post the translation somewhere, but I don't want anyone berating me for just for creating something I can watch without groaning.
