"Yay! We survived a crash landing! That's amazing!" Whoops, dead. It wouldn't have had the same impact if he'd just died in the crash. Wash died a good death.
And I'm pretty sure I saw Coulson die on screen. Fury announced it to the others off-screen, but I remember seeing him fade out as he was talking to Fury. Which, again, I think influenced how it was received. We got to see a whole range of emotion: Thor screaming in anger (or sorrow), Fury sadly watching his friend die, and then the other Avengers getting the message cold over the wire. I think it kind of mirrored the reactions I heard from the crowd - surprise and shock, sadness, then a kind of numbness.

Re: How Including One Scene in ‘The Avengers’ Trailer Hurt the Impact of the Movie | Film School Rejects

Or were it not for the fact that anybody who reads these websites already knew that "Iron Man 3" was in the works.

Re: ‘Avengers’ Box Office Blow Out: Why It Means Everything and Mostly Nothing | Film School Rejects

Utterly pointless and incorrect article. This movie was never meant to "revolutionize" the film industry in the way that you say it was. Never. What it is, is a great popcorn flick that successfully merged multiple franchises into 1 huge film. That in itself is historic. In the future, 1 superhero won't be enough and we will likely be seeing more studios trying to make their own multi-franchise for years to come. BTW, Spider-Man is basically the template for the modern superhero movie (things changed somewhat with the Dark Knight) and Harry Potter ushered in an era (for better or worse) of fantastical movies aimed at a teen audience: Chronicles of Narnia, Twilight, etc are all based on the HP model. You are bashing these movies for something their makers never intended them to be and then missing how influential they actually were for what they actually are.

Re: Enter to Win a Rare Vinyl ‘Rampart’ Poster and a Script Signed By Woody Harrelson | Film School Rejects

Righteous Kill is my fave.....

They say that's why the script has her her character pursuing him so aggressively. He refused to have his character chase her all over Paris like a dirty old man.
Must say, though, I am SO glad the pairing went on as planned. That is one damned sexy and romantic film.

Re: ‘Avengers’ Box Office Blow Out: Why It Means Everything and Mostly Nothing | Film School Rejects

It can be done. But very very carefully. To movie goers, Batman has always lived in a different universe than Superman. It is remembered that way. It will be difficult to break that image. Batmen is more based in reality, and people expect some realism. Especially now that Nolan is at the helm, it would be hard to watch Batman share the screen with Supes. Nolans Batman will be burned in our collective memory for a while.

It can be done, it will just be hard to do it right.

Re: ‘Avengers’ Box Office Blow Out: Why It Means Everything and Mostly Nothing | Film School Rejects

P.S. Avengers did revolutionize film. We will now start seeing "universes" being made instead of a single line of films.

Imagine if Star Wars did this leading up to a New Hope. Darth Vader 1 & 2. A Han Solo movie. An Obi Wan Kenobi, maybe even a Chewbacca movie.

It allows character build ups inside each individual character's movie, then you can throw them together for a climax. It has been done in other mediums for a while, it is a first for the movie industry.

Re: ‘Avengers’ Box Office Blow Out: Why It Means Everything and Mostly Nothing | Film School Rejects

For me the box office numbers mean Joss Whedon now has more pull in Hollywood. Because as much as we like to kid ourselves, movie making is a business.
