Film School Rejects: Is the Twilight Soundtrack a Sign of Angsty Things to Come?

  • Meli · 1 year ago
LoL! You guys are funny. I like the soundtrack, but then again I've always been into angsty music and I don't see that changing anytime soon. A couple of the bands on there do seem random ...I was surprised by the Collective Soul song; I hadn't thought of them in years. Robert Pattison's song I like the guitar, but I think he could use a little vocal coaching. Paramore and Perry Farrell did songs for the album because they are fans of the book. It's been said all songs will appear in the movie, but there is a score as well, by Carter Burwell that CD will be released on Dec 9th though after Bella's lullaby I'm not so certain I'm excited about it. I am fan of his movie scores, but Bella's lullaby, which should be a straight piano piece is a huge let down of blandness.

FSR has an office? I thought you guys ran the website using the free WiFi at select McDonald's.

Hahaha! You guys are really cool and totally funny (even if you slammed the
soundtrack. :p). I liked the songs in the soundtrack independent of the movie, I'm
not entirely convinced that it's a good collection of songs FOR the movie. They're
releasing the Musical Score CD too, according to Amazon.

Wow, Tiger Beat. It's still in circulation? LOL. If Cole reads Tiger Beat (and
Twilight), what does Brian read when it gets lonely in the FSR office?

D Train...well you thought wrong! Borders Books

D Train - the key word in your statement is SELECT McDonald's. We don't use just ANY McDonald's to write stupid opinions from, my friend.

Brian, while you're up, refill my Hi-C Orange Drink, please.

From what I understand, the choice was either Collective Soul or Type O Negative. While both were definitely random enough, apparently Type O Negative was too "obvious." This is all in the newest Tiger Beat.

I dont get it? Werent you all ALREADY saying that this was a movie for teenage girls? WHats the deal with the soundtrack? Of course its catering to the same audience that read the books to start with. I am seeing this movie and am expecting nothing more than teenagers there. Im using my sis as n excuse to see it, heh.

    @ David

I think the movie has the possibility of appealing to a wider audience, and we don't know whether they've taken advantage of that yet (since we haven't seen the movie), And those that read the book argue that there's a decent sub-section of non-teenage-girls that read it, but this soundtrack lands squarely in tweeny land.
  • Rob Hunter · 1 year ago
    @ Cole,

is your role as Twilight apologist going to end after its release, or will it continue through all three (or more) movies? Where exactly is this possible wider audience you speak of? It's no good for real fans of horror, drama, or T&A. It's obviously not a comedy, a kids movie, or a serious exploration of interspecies love, the Mormon religion, or ageism. And the only folks that have actually, ACTUALLY, read the book are teenage girls, older women who wish they were still teenage girls, and you. (And we all know what you wish you were...)

And this is not Twilight bashing, just an observation of its target audience.

Paramore rocks BG! You and i both know that you jam that disc like it's going out of style!!! Don't hate in the 08!

You'd think maybe they'd try to get some of the bands that came from Washington to be on the soundtrack... I guess Death Cab for Cutie's songs are too uplifting, after all it's not like they were inspired by the depressing weather up here or anything... oh wait...

I'm just saying, for a movie about the moody gloominess of Washington it would make sense to use moody, gloomy songs inspired by the moody gloominess of Washington. Moody. Gloomy.

P.S. What the eff kind of cheerful name is "The Black Ghosts"? They should have added more MOODY GLOOMINESS to their name to make the message clear.

    @ Rob

I'm glad you live up to your infamous reputation for being short-sighted. It's first and foremost a love story which opens up the entire market of females, and it is an interesting take on the vampire mythos. I'm not sure if the film will hit the right notes, but it has the potential to.

And if we're going by marketing, I could name a ton of movies that were advertised completely differently then how they turned out - Fight Club being my favorite example.

    @ North

Do you have a band called Moody Gloominess by any chance?
  • Rob Hunter · 1 year ago
    @Cole,

By saying the film should appeal to all females simply because it's a love story you're insulting millions of intelligent women. Your own short-sightedness goes a long way towards explaining why your hymen is still intact.

I <3 Rob Hunter, Sorry Cole
  • North · 1 year ago
No... but you've just given me a wonderful idea, be on the lookout for MOODY GLOOMINESS. We'll probably be ready for the second Twilight movie's soundtrack.
