Film School Rejects: Haley Passes Rorscharch Test, Wins Krueger Role

    Robert Englund has always played Freddy, and I've always thought he's done a good job playing the character, even if the movies were declining fast in quality. Haley stole the spotlight in Watchmen with his portrayal of Rorschach, and I can't help but think that playing Krueger would be below him. That is, unless they plan on toning down the campiness of Freddy's character, and with the huge fan following the Joker got last year, I don't think it's too far fetched that they would make Krueger a little more serious.

    I actually can't think of any working actor today that has the right level of recognizability and could take on the role - except probably Haley.

    Didn't know much at all about him until I saw Watchmen & reading stuff on here. So I payed close attention to him in Watchmen because I was kinda of opposed to them making another one. After seeing him hammer one out of the park I knew he would get the role. As far as Kyle Gallner I thought he was good in The Haunting in Connecticut, but they movie blew. It was like a drama with a few ghosts.

    Haley is the best choice working today. The only other person I might have looked at would be Michael Shannon, but I would only go there if they knew the movie was rebooting in a much darker fashion (which seems to be the trend these days). The great thing about Haley is he can play the darkness without breaking a sweat, but he can also bring out the odd comedic moments in the horror/comedy genre that was nearly perfected by this franchise.

    Well, if they have to do this, Haley does look most like the part. I had heard that this was going to be a prequel, though? Showcasing Kreuger's molesting days?

    There was some rumors about a prequel awhile ago, back with Robert Englund still attached. Sounded awesome. This is going to be more of a reboot and will definitely feature Freddy Kreuger as a burned up guy with a razor glove hand.
