Unlike most other things in life, there is no Plan B for the planet. It is the most precious resource we possess: the only planet of its type in the known universe, the only planet we know of capable of sustaining life. Mankind has changed its home more than any other species. We have shaped our landscape in ways that would have been impossible just 150 years ago. Unfortunately, this includes changing our world for the worse. While it's true that the earth has been through bigger things than us and will heal its wounds over time, we have certain responsibilities as the dominant species on the planet and the caretakers of our world. In my daily life, I've taken some small steps to reduce my impact: recycling when possible, biking or walking when possible, and using public transportation are a few of them. I know that I probably won't make any lasting impression on the earth in the first place, but it makes me feel good to think I'm leaving my home a little nicer than I found it.

Answer to question: I'm doing something similar to TBNolan minus the moving part. I've also switched out nearly all of the light bulbs in my home to energy saving bulbs. I've stopped using paper and plastic grocery bags in favor of a reusable cloth bag. I've also started watching my water consumption when it comes to showering, brushing my teeth, etc. Too bad the world is doomed anyway...

Note to TBNolan: I used to idle IRC with you... I think.

Still idling, sir. Where do you find yourself these days?

I've got two reusable cloth bags in the car at all times for groceries; if I leave my car and forget them, I usually turnaround walk back to get one or both. I've been using low volume water pressure on my showers for years now. I recycle more often, using the recycle trash can the city gave me to fill with bottles, cans, trays, and paper. I'm conscious of what I print out, and when I can try to make do by entering info onto my smartphone to avoid unnecessarily printouts.

I have been trying to recycle aluminum cans as much as possible. I was brought up as a young lad separating cans from the normal garbage. It's ingrained in me at this point.

My company works with local businesses -primarily hospitality sector- to facilitate the recycling of metals and plastics that aren't otherwise filtered out before being wasted. In conjunction with local Return-It locations, we are able to realize a small profit for our clients in order to further their incentive to continue recycling all that they can from what their industry requires that they use.

I'm training right now for a cross country trip on my bicycle. Thats going to save about two tons of co2 -- its not that much, but at the same time I'll be experiencing the planet on a whole different level.

I teach. Realizing a long time ago that my actions could only go so far and people don't act because they don't realize the urgency of our situation. Adult consumption habits are harder to change but if we start when they're young and show by example the next generation will be able to lead this planet into the future. My car died recently and I have chosen not to get one. I get around now on bike and public transit now. Kinda difficult in a city like Calgary where urban sprawl is pretty bad, but possible. We recently renovated our condo and we got bamboo flooring and used low VOC paint. Oh, and the least amount of plastic possible.

Never thought of myself as a hippie, but once I started making environmental choices it was hard to go back.

I am a vegetarian. I compost. I grow some of my own food. I recycle. I don't use plastic shopping bags. I don't use bottled water. We just installed a water conserving toilet.

My community has a ONE CAN recycling collection that picks up curb side, so it makes it 110% easy to recycle. We also work from home, use cloth diapers, have energy efficient appliances/light bulbs, and Freecycle often.

My town has a very good curbside recycling program as well as a site to drop off hazardous waste materials. With a system as good as this already in place, I enjoy recycling any and all materials whenever I can
