The Terminator films don't follow a consistent timeline - this does. In Terminator, if John Connor doesn't send the other guy back, he'd never be born, but he was already born. That's a hole.
Here, there's one timeline relative to Hector, and another relative to the other characters. It may seem weird, and the decisions the characters make are sometimes stupid, but what happens, happens, and as far as we know, everything happens only once.
