Film School Rejects: Five Reasons To Be Excited About the Thor Movie

  • Mister Hand · 1 year ago
I was still on the fence until I read point number five, which is where I believe we could find ourselves in a real movie. Start with a guy in a mental hospital because he thinks he's a Norse god, then slowly reveal that he really has been inhabited by the spirit of a Norse god...

Well done, sir. I am decidedly more excited about a Thor movie now.

Given Thor's reference in one of my favorite 80s films, Adventures in Babystitting, ... gives him street cred. Plus, Elisabeth Shue was my first on screen crush!!

    "Fabio in metal" HA!

    'nuff said.

Eh, I don't know if people want all that mystical possessed-by-a-god/demon angle. The Mandarin's Ten Rings will be a challenge in Iron Man 2 (if they introduce him) because in a world where technology is abundant and everything runs on gears and holographic screens, you're gonna give us a guy with magic? I'm open-minded, so if Marvel can pull it off, then I'm on board. There are others, though, who won't be so easy to persuade.

As long as they get someone decent behind the camera, I think this could be something really interesting. The possibility of Branaugh is leaning nicely in that direction. Whoever tackles this should read this article and learn from it. We don't need two hours of fantasy kingdoms and godlike battles (just one or two will suffice nicely). Base the movie in the real world and you'll get your audience for sure. Then when they bring all these great characters together for the Avengers movie, I'm thinking box office records, people!!!

If it all leads up to an Avengers movie then I am all for it

I only need one reason to watch a "Thor" movie:

    HE'S A VIKING WITH A BIG F@#KING HAMMER!

Get John Milius (Though I disagree with his politics, he did make Conan The Barbarian), a worthy villain (Loki or The Midgard Serpent), slap a Lord Of The Rings/Dethklok score on it and you've got one kick-ass movie!

Besides, I'm dog tired of all the emo superheroes crying into their hankies before saving the world (Lookin' right at you, Spider-Man 3). Want some cheese with that whine, Superman Returns?

A mead-drinkin' Viking walking around bashing fools upside the head with a hammer sounds like my kind of superhero movie.

I know he might be too old for the part, but I always envisioned Vladimir Kulich (The 13th Warrior) as Thor. He had that stoic, warrior vibe locked down.

I don't know why people would get excited about this. I happen to be much more patriotic.

I think this movie could be very good, and there are a lot of different ways that could happen. The Ultimate Marvel 'Thor-might-be-crazy' is good. They could also take a concept from Bruce Almighty and have a normal guy going through life be confronted by Odin, taken to Asgard, and told he's the god of thunder. Only instead of doing comedy stuff and winning his girl back, he has to beat his brother to death with a hammer. Cool.

Donald Blake is not in this film. It's a Norse Mythology film. It is true that he is NOT a God all of the time in this script for an obvious reason.

    This renews my timid faith.
I trust Kenneth Branagh and as long as it doesn't take the 300 approach (look nice but lack
substance) then I think we'll be fine, and since Kenny B (as I wish I could call him) can bring
humanity and substance and relatability to anything I'm excited to learn more.

matthew mcconaughey should play thor. give him long blond hair, and whether he plays the
bearded thor or the clean shaven thor, he has the look. the perfect jaw.
  • Colin · 1 year ago
I quite like the approach of the guy in the institution who thinks he is Thor actually turning out to be a guy who can turn into Thor.

Funny how 300 is being thrown around alot............because I wouldn't mind seeing Gerard
Butler in the role of Thor.....

I think people need to take in consideration being able to act the role as Thor not just have a "the look." I have doubt in many of the suggestions posted for suggestions. However, I agree with big k Vladimir Kulich would be awesome as Thor. He has the look and played a similar role. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how well he would do as Donald Blake if the director takes the approach discussed.

Personally, I have been waiting for great adaptations to film for these marvel characters. I was impressed with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, RDJ and Eddy did an excellent job can't wait for them to be able to take their roles further. I can only hope they find the right actor to bring Thor to film appropriately.

I am very excited at the prospect of a Thor movie , if done properly it could be a winner ,as has been said it depends how the director portrays the character and how the overall movie is built around him , hopefully mistakes have been learned from the Hulk movies , the most recent one being very enjoyable and the previous movie a bit of a let down. The actor who plays Thor is a tough one and no one springs straight to mind, i do hope they dont go for an all CGI Thor though.

I have been extremely excited about the prospect of this film. It seems to me, anyone who doesn't find Thor interesting are the same lot who think Wolverine is the best thing to hit the Marvel Universe since Stan Lee himself. Now to me THAT is a rather boring character we could have a lot less of (not Stan, Wolverine), but that's me. Whenever I hear someone say, "Thor is stupid, man..." I automatically assume they don't have a wide breadth of imagination. To my understanding, Thor WILL be an Asgardian god in the film. Not some nutjob. The majority of the film will be set in the extradimensional realm of Asgard that will have a Tolkein look and feel to it with a bit of mystic psychadelia thrown in, which makes perfect sense. Because of this, his mortal identity might not have as big a role in the film at first (Thor didn't get an alter ego till he was banished to Earth by Odin). The story behind Thor is huge and epic. The villains are powerful and deceitful. And not every friggin comic adaption out there should be about a mutant or a rich dude in a suit using gadgets.
And as Big K said "HE"S A VIKING WITH A BIG F@#KING HAMMER!" --- Nuff Said

Honestly, the thing that made Iron Man and the Hulk interesting movies was their human side. While Thor the psychopath is an interesting angle, Thor is actually a pretty deep story. He is a God warrior whose destiny it is to die fighting for his people. That can be a pretty interesting story depending on how you shop it. Think Matrix. Think Jesus. Think of the head job that has to play on a guy with all that power. Knowing his purpose.
