Film School Rejects: First Look: Twilight’s Robert Pattinson as Dali in Little Ashes

I'm guessing they were going for the ever-elusive child-toucher look.

    Sweet mustache.

I'm not sure I see Pattison as Dali, but I do want to see the movie to see if he pulls it off.

Pattison is a terrible actor. very wooden. both in harry potter and twilight. No facial movement. Terrible actor in my opinion. i wont be seeing this.

i posted the above comment before watching the clip. And i have been proved right.

no facial movement? did we watch the same clip? I havent seen twilight and cant recall GoF, but that clip has sparked my interest. Very understated but felt. I'm guessing you want to see an actor hamm it up completely in order for it to be seen as good?

I disagree with the comments here, and feel that Rob is a pretty good actor. I haven't watched Twilight, but I've watched him in How to Be, Harry Potter, and a television movie called The Haunted Airman, and he's done a good job in all the three.

Rob is the last person who'd say he is some top notch, amazing actor. He'll tell you straight up that he's learning his craft and that he works to lose himself in each role. This is an independent small film that wasn't even supposed to be released in the US, but thanks to the overwhelming fanbase of Twilight, this movie and his other movie How to Be will get more attention then they probably would have generated on their own. Rob thought that Twilight was going to be another small movie. Last thing he ever planned on doing was getting involved in some juggernaut like what Twilight has become. I appreciate the work that Rob puts into each role and clearly this movie is no different. Between Twilight, How to Be, and Little Ashes no one can say Rob is type cast. He's got three very different projects to showcase his talent in.

I really hate to say this but this clip is bad...Pattinson's acting does not convince me here at all. He is no Heath Ledger that is for sure. I think Twilight made Pattinson not vice versa. Pattinson still needs to prove himself...but I think he's got potential?

I've seen Twilight and Rob added layers and nuance to his characterization of Edward, which upon first viewing is easy to miss as the movie is paced so quickly. Rob is a chameleon who morphs Edward between brooding rebel, sensitive lover and vampiric seducer by modulating his voice and especially using his face as a tool to denote sensitivity, charm, anger etc. I very much look forward to any work he does in the future; the camera loves him and with his interest in fine-tuning his craft, his career will just grow exponentially.

Dali was from Spain. I'm not sure what this guy's accent is all about, but I am looking forward to this movie much more than that Twilight thing.

I think he has potential. He's still relatively new to acting and I think if he chooses his projects wisely and continues to study the craft that he could be solid actor.

    looks boring!

Lame. Its a shame Depp couldnt have gotten the part. Pattinson looks like a skinny Mario Brother. Mamma mia!

The film synopsis interested me, however, the casting of Pattinson as Dalí will keep me from seeing it on opening day. Depending on how well the film is received, I might not even see it at all.

To be fair, I watched the clip and I must say it is not very promising. Pattinson seems stiff and unnatural. What is up with that accent too?

I'd say he's a great choice for Salvador Dali. He is abnormally talented himself and so he can show viewers his humble, yet talented side. I don't like his mustache though. Oh, and Depp not having this part instead? It's great news. Depp is muy macho and handsome and all, but the role of Salvador Dali is an intense role. Rob Pattinson could pull it off, but I doubt Johnny Depp could. He'll just make Salvador Dali look like an awkward comedian.

hmmm, this movie looks and sounds very interesting. I want to see it. I agree that I don't really see Pattinson as the Dali type. But that is what acting is all about right? Becoming a character.

Terrible actor, it s possible. But the question is not there. I'm french art historian and I'm waiting for this film, I hope it s not a "caricature" of this genius that I respect so much. He was not only a killer in painting, he was a fantastic theorist... and much more. Thus, I hope that this film gonna respect the artist. (Sorry for bad english)

Dali is a young man in 1922 and Rob morphs convincingly into the complex character; shy yet wanting to be heard. Could someone else have played the part better? I've seen "no-names" pull off very complex characters exquisitely well, and this role is a kicker no matter who plays it. It may not be best suited to Rob. I could see a Robert Downey type play this character. The casting of Rob... was it the best idea? Did they want a tall, lanky, angular faced young actor with name recognition? Maybe they should have gone more for character match for this role. Rob is great but my opinion maybe not the best casting choice.

Robert Pattinson is a brilliant actor! He did an amazing job as Dali. Some people might think that this movie is weird but that's why it is so brilliant because that was how Dali really was. Dali was a very strange but brilliant artist and I think Robert got it right on, and if you disagree you must not know much about art, sorry but it's true.
