    Delightful!

Looks fun. I hope there's some actual sleuthing though.

I imagine it would be hard to show any real crime-solving in a teaser. Maybe a full trailer will add a bit more, but would you really want the plot to be a mystery that could be flashed in 2 two minutes anyway?

growing up the novels and films I'm not a Holmes purist but I do notice the differences between the original books and what Holmes ended up on film ....I love this trailer because they lost Holmes' stuffiness and gave him more of a humorous nature...it looks like Ritchie may have made a great popcorn film..something I wouldn't have expected from him...I sort of like the idea of Lord Blackwood messing around with the black arts and the whole Alister Crowely connection...

I first found out about the character Sherlock Holmes from a Japanese comic/Manga called "Case Closed" or it would be known as Meitantei Conan (??? ????, Detective Conan in Japan, .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_Closed.

So by the way everyone thinks of of this movie already that I knew people will say good things about this movie, I will for sure see it when it comes out on my movie list this year which looking great to watch!

I'm not so sure about Jude Law as Watson...from the trailer, it seems he isn't as refined as the written character.

I'm just the opposite of you, daviedave, I think Jude appears to be the perfect Watson. It's funny, though, because based on different comments I've read from readers of the canons, many people come away with a different vision of the same character. Many think Downey's Sherlock looks to "unrefined." I think the books, the B.Rathbone films, and even TV commercials have become blended together to form a version of Sherlock Holmes that is not exactly true, like when people think that he should be wearing a deerstalker and saying "Elementary, my dear Watson," and since he's not, they think it's not true portrayal of Sherlock.

I'm actually pleased with RDJ as Holmes. I've been a longtime fan of Arthur Conan Doyle and the world he created for his intrepid detectives, so I've been aware of what you wrote about for a little while.

(Forgive my inner-geekness for a moment:) On Star Trek: The Next Generation, when Data had his story arcs in a holodeck simulation as Holmes (i.e. when Moriarty took control of the Enterprise), it appeared as if the writers/creative team took the concept you mentioned (the combo of books, TV, and movies) as what Sherlock Holmes SHOULD be...as opposed to actually reading and studying the books for a more accurate likeness. They probably did it because it is a more recognizable affectation for the "masses." I applaud Guy Ritchie's "take" on the character of Holmes (and RDJ), but I still think Jude Law doesn't quite "click" for me. I know a teaser trailer is exactly that...a small taste of what is to come, so I'll try to suspend further judgement until I see more. :-)

Looks great, but on a tangent - can you please cut back the pre-play ads to 15 seconds? I love supporting this site and sending these stories around to friends, but 30 seconds is waaay too long for most people's attention spans.

    C'mon, FSR!

    Hey there sir,

Complaint noted. We'll see what we can do. Its a tough balance -- trying to keep the user experience at its best while also making enough cheddar to keep the lights on -- you'd be surprised how much light bulbs cost these days ;)

I didn't realize Sherlock Holmes was an action hero...

This trailer looks like fun, but there's something about the slo-mo action that doesn't feel right. Here's hoping that it is used sparingly in the actual film.

Also, not sure if anyone mentioned the lovely Rachel McAdams and her steamy costume selection. That is a win, friends. ;)
  • jack2jack · 6 months ago
Neil, ever the late bloomer. Rachel's costume is duly noted. This trailer is seductive. I had my doubts with Ritchie at the helm. I need to see more of Judes character, I am seriously not a fan of his. Downey is smashing as they say.

I'm with you. That slow motion punch was just plain ugly
  • tmccar20 · 6 months ago
Remember lock stock and two smoking barrels, slow mo was used in that when the sleeping woman gets up and fires the machine gun. Guy Richie and the Wachoskis were slowing down scenes way before Zack Snyder was.

Maybe it's the music, maybe it's the period setting, maybe it's the humor mixed with stunt work, but I'm picking up some serious Pirates of the Caribbean vibes from this trailer. Anyone with me on this?
  • Avaela · 6 months ago
Hans Zimmer is the composer for Sherlock Holmes so that's probably why it sounds similar to Pirates since he also composed for that.
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
Maybe one day Guy Ritchie will make a movie that doesn't feature two shirtless English men boxing each other in slow motion. But probably not.
