Film School Rejects: Fantastic Fest Review: Merantau

  • Neil Miller · 1 month ago
This is, hands down, my personal favorite film of the fest. An incredibly solid story, a great central performance from Iko Uwais -- who is as badass at Tony Jaa, but with dramatic range -- and a sweet fight at the end that is very real, very brutal and immensely entertaining. A fan-fucking-tastic film.

Yay! An Indonesian movie in an international movie festival.
As an Indonesian myself, I'm so proud that Merantau can be reviewed at FSR & graded A!
    Brilliant!
I've watched the movie around August 2009 & actually enjoyed it very much. The fighting scenes was awesome!
I'm still waiting for the DVD to be released here.

I am an Indonesian. Thank you for your high appreciation of Merantau. I would like to translate your review into Indonesian. Would you give me a permission for that? There are many Indonesians that would really be happy to read your review.
