Film School Rejects: Fans Want to Know: What Is ‘Paul?’

  • Antony Wilson · 4 months ago
After Run, Fatboy, Run (a film I've purposely avoided thus far) I've been looking forward to Simon Pegg reuniting with Nick Frost for something wicked. I'm eagerly awaiting part three of the Cornetto Trilogy. Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are probably my two favourite comedies of the last few years. It could just be due to be being part of the Commonwealth though (New Zealand).

Though it could also be due to my loathing of all things spearheaded by Will Ferrell, who has unfortunately controlled mainstream comedy for the last few years.

As it happens I love Will Ferrell, so maybe there just not compatible tastes.

I'm not looking forward to this after I made the mistake of watching "Superbad".

What films do you like? lol I also can't see this being similar to Superbad.

Why must I list the films I like?
  • Davebaxter1989 · 4 months ago
You don't have to do anything lol I was just noticing that you tend to dislike most popular films.
  • Kangaroo Be Stoned · 4 months ago
Not really. I just dislike the ones that are shit.

And you must have a fairly brutal barometer of shit. Does one bad aspect of a film tar it, or can you look past flaws to appreciate the whole?
  • Kangaroo Be Stoned · 4 months ago
Jesus Christ. Yes, sometimes one aspect can ruin films for me. "Slumdog" was ruined because the entire film is nothing but plot contrivances, which is a sign of poor writing. It's very hard for me to appreciate that tripe. The plot contrivances in "Star Trek" ruined the film for me, along with the atrocious plot, the lame villain, and the shitting on the science they could have at least tried to get right (a supernova threatening an entire galaxy, lol!).

The evil clown has spoken, every film sucks... whats the point?

Pegg Sans Frost is terrible. Glad to see them back together. Can't wait to see what the Alien 'Paul' looks like as well, but I'm tired of Seth Rogan in everything lately. They could have found a much better voice.

I think there definitely are different tastes in comedy. For me, Pegg + Frost is a good thing, Seth Rogan, not so much. Again, another Commonwealth citizen (Australia), so different senses of humour in different parts of the world definitely makes a difference I think.
