Film School Rejects: Fanboys: Straight to DVD, Weinstein Co. Cites Protests as Possible Reason

    I never *really* had a problem with the Weinstein's (though, I understood why so many did) until they released "Diary of the Dead" in like, 5 theaters across the country in February. And let's not even go into the whole "Grindhouse" DVD release fiasco. And their unceremoniously dumping of many great movies to either DVD (with terrible covers), or into impossible to find theaters (it sucks living an hour or so from a major city). And being involved in the "Halloween" remake. And their whole "EXTREEEEME!!!!" DVD label. And let's not forget their poor treatment of many Asian films in their catalog. And...

    ...y'know? Maybe I *really* do have a problem with these guys. [Expletive] The Weinsteins, indeed. I'm in full agreement, Robert.

    i was hyped up on protesting. i was going to drive down to the la one. what am i suppose to do with my picket signs now lol.

    As a creator of spin myself, I have to wonder why the executives wouldn't package the two versions together and ensure that a decent amount of people rent or buy it for a few dollars more instead of splitting profits between two versions. It's not like anyone is going to buy both. And how do you package the same (but different) movie so that it doesn't confuse the buyers? The Weinsteins are a great creative force, but they need to get some new management up in there.

    It's basic supply and demand. If there's no demand for your movie, you don't release two versions of it. I have to wonder what the actors and director think of all this.

    i dont care what version i see i just want to [explative] see this movie but i cant get it anywhere because the dvd release seems to be delayed from all this bs

    It seems like the Weinsteins used to be cool and now they've just turned into a horrible corporate machine. =0(
