Film School Rejects: Eli Roth Talks Turkey and Science Fiction Blockbusters

  • RobertFure · 7 months ago
I dont think anyone will give him $85 million considering his track record. Cabin Fever did well for its budget, Hostel did well, and Hostel II tanked. So he's not 2 for 3. He's like 1.5 for 3.

A side note: The polishing a turd line made me laugh.

Dont think I'm the only one who thought Cabin Fever was a stupid movie. SciFi Channel quality. Agree that no one will shell out that kind of gamble on Roth. Is he kidding?! He wants that kind of a lend and doesn't even know what kind of "monster" he wants for a film! Studios must be laughing.

He's good buddies with Tarantino, so I think based on that, he'll get the budget he wants. Or if not, at least close to it.

I like how casual he makes tacking on a $5 million dollar movie seem..

I'll see Thanksgiving. The trailer alone was worth the price of admission for Grindhouse.

Polished turd line was pure gold. I couldn't have done better if I was in junior high.
Respond however you want, I'm sure it'll be side-splittingly witty, I've just always felt it reflected poorly on the writer's for sites like this when they completely tear down a director, actor, etc. Not liking them is one thing, having to get your jollys by completely ripping them apart is on a whole lesser, pathetic level. God forbid Eli Roth be optimistic or do what he loves doing :
Film School Rejects goes a step beyond most movie news site in that instead of being frequented by trolls, it's run and written for by trolls. But hey, what do I know about quality?

Hey Janet, I'll do my best to keep this reply witless in the hopes that you approve and understand. You have a point, in general, but I don't think it applies here. I didn't completely tear Roth down... I called his films mildly entertaining and his idea here pretty interesting. I do think he's an incredibly mediocre director though, and since this is an opinion site as opposed to a strictly news site I'm allowed to voice that opinion. Also, your claim would have more merit if all we wrote were slams and insults. We don't. There are plenty of things we love that we voice positive views on too. For example, I have a very positive film review elsewhere on this site for a Japanese movie about a senile old man who tries in vain to milk his daughter-in-law's naked breasts every morning. It's a touching film made by a talented director and that's reflected by the absence of "turd" jokes in the review.

    Thanks for commenting!

I wouldn't give him that much money if I was a studio head and truth be told he probably doesn't even need that much,, I would put out like 3 mil to see Thanksgiving made though.

For the record, I could have done it better if I was in junior high.

Seriously, is this gonna be the Manson family at Thanksgiving dinner? It seem as such since all of his so called monsters are just torture loving psychotics. How many times has that been done before? His movies have never been original and he seems to take a page out of other horror scripts. Writer my ANUS!
