Film School Rejects: Editor’s Blog: New Features! Twilight Fans! Date Rape!

  • ANGRYBROOMSTICK · 7 months ago
fuck Seth Rogen, fuck Jody Hill. Fucking a woman when she's drunk and unconscious is called RAPE, plain and period! Even Anna Faris said in an interview that she was uncomfortable doing the scene.

rape is wrong plain and simple....

I do have to argue it's a dark comedy film...the point of the "dark" aspect is to humorize terrible things...while the scene in it's entire length is featured in the red-band trailer it's what Brandi says that is the humorous part...not the date rape itself...I think it put more into context what Brandi's character is like...this is a girl who enjoys drugging herself to the point of blackouts and seemed to be ok with being violated while passed out...both characters are horrible people in my opinion, I think that's what Jody Hill was going for...

For it to be a dark comedy, it has to have some sort of comedy other than a Chick-fil-a joke. Seriously, without Aziz I don't think I would have laughed at all.

I was laughing a lot but maybe that's because I loved East Bound...the two are pretty similar tone-wise....while I'm not saying it was as good or on the same level I felt Observe was in the same comedy style as say The Big Lebowski....

east bound and down is the best show ever.

I know! can't wait for season 2....I don't think an American made comedy show has made me laugh like that since Chappelle....as much as people enjoy the Office and 30 Rock...I prefer Brit-Coms...Peep Show being the greatest show ever!!!

"...this is a girl who enjoys drugging herself to the point of blackouts and seemed to be ok with being violated while passed out."

Here's the kicker: that still doesn't make it ok.
The fact that she got sloshed doesn't mean it's ok. Even if you think she'd be ok with it, unless she said she's ok with it, literally and directly plain and clear, it's not cool. Also he seemed to be pretty coherent, which made it also not okay.
But I'd rather not get my panties in a bunch about a sub-par movie anyway.

this feminist thinks it's fine. and, correct answer. thanks for the plug!
  • Seaghan · 7 months ago
You're absolutely right. It is rape and rape is wrong.
Only, no one got raped...because its a movie. And movies aren't real. Unless its a documentary. Has Seth Rogan done a documentary?
  • Kevin_Carr · 7 months ago
Wrong. My mind was raped by the movie.
  • Smile · 7 months ago
Well I happen to like rape, and I'm tired of being oppressed.

"but since no one that works for FSR has ever had sex"...

... technically speaking, FSR is just a hobby for me.
  • Cole_Abaius · 7 months ago
Yet you still choose abstinence. Noble of you, Hunter.
  • BethanyP · 7 months ago
it's ok. i've had enough of it for the both of you nerds.

also, seriously? is that the scene in its entirety? the one in the trailer above? if so, that's not rape. i don't give two sh*ts about CA law. that happens to everybody. it's called Wednesday Night, and if it involves 'Ludes, we call it Wednesday Night Meltdown. i wouldn't recommend you boys doing stuff like that often, but....sometimes you're just too f****d up to mind, really. and you get to movie-do seth rogen. bonus. /done talking about this forever

The full scene is like 35 seconds long, the first 30 of which are just him humping at a completely passed out Farris.

Love that you guys are expanding the site. Since I wasn't sure who to contact about this I figured I'd leave a comment here. I love the fact that you incorporated a mobile site... I check your site regularly at work and have to do so on my phone since FSR has been blocked from my work computer by HR. However, your WAP site takes almost as long to load on my 3g blackberry as the regular site does. There's something odd in the design that takes the header almost a full minute to load. I tried on several other phones and got the same result. I hope you can fix this as it really hinders the experience. With that said, I love FSR, and it sounds like it will only get better. Keep up the good work!

Just because I turned you down Cole doesn't mean I've chosen abstinence. It means I've chosen wisely.
  • Josh_Radde · 7 months ago
They're both despicable characters, so I don't care if its date rape. You're really not supposed to like either of them. Now say if Michael Cera had date-raped Ellen Page in Juno, that would be a different argument. Also, in that scene doesn't she tell him to keep going?

You know, I like raunchy comedy's (At least those done by Kevin Smith.) but there is such a thing as too much. I think this qualifies as too much.

Plus, what kind of statement is it that Kevin Carr of all people says, "My mind was raped by the movie." If it goes to far for Kevin Carr , it's too much. (Sorry if I'm taking you out of context Kevin.)
