Film School Rejects: Disney Locks Down Johnny Depp for The Lone Ranger, Tim Burton’s Alice and Pirates of the Caribbean 4

ANOTHER 'Pirates'? Disney really does take things too far.

As for the Burton film: VERY excited.

I am excited for all three...I know, cop out!
I love POTC, and there can never be enough Jack Sparrow. As for the Mad Hatter, I think his voice will lend itself to an interesting character. I think I'm more excited to see what Burton's interpretation of the film will be. Lastly, I think Tonto would be a great role, though I don't see JD saying Keemosabe!
I'm glad that JD is signing on for family friendly roles...and if that's the present he wants to leave for his children and mine, wonderful!

Burton will screw up Alice and the Pirates movie will be passable, depending on the cast involved.

What bugs me is that Tonto is a supporting role and unless they get a very personable character to fill the Lone Ranger role Depp is going to make him look like an amatuer. The other nagging factor is that with all the talent in Hollywood they couldn't find an acutal Native American? Depp could actually play the Lone Ranger role and give it the personality it deserves.

Really looking forward to Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and Depp as Tonto sounds pretty cool but they'd have to get someone really good to play the Lone Ranger for the dynamic to work, and I'm all for more Pirates as long as Depp is involved with the films then they could make 8 more pirates films and I'd still go, hes that good of an actor.

I think Johnny picks roles according to his like and dislikes - and if he liked the role - then he will make it his own. I eagerly anticipate all 3 movies.

I am anxious to see what they do with "Ranger." It is fresh, and if JerryB is directing which is the rumor, it could be a new franchise. Depp as Tonto will be awfully strong if they don't have a Crowe or Bale to pull off the rough and tough cowboy peacekeeper. Of course, the character of the Lone Ranger was a "seasoned" personality, so Willis, though overplayed, would be an interesting gamble.
Any info on the Stallone remake of the "Death Wish" franchise? I hear he is working to get the rights and has even discussed how he would alter the role...
