Film School Rejects: Discuss: Who Would You Hire to Play Sinatra?

  • AndyIII · 6 months ago
You know, you would almost need a couple of actors for this...the really young Frank looks almost NOTHING like the older Frank to me. It's almost freaky how much he changed. Check out pics of the young bow-tie crooner Frank and Rat Pack era Frank and I don't see a lot of resemblance.

Joe Piscopo for old Frank? chill...just kidding.

I'm just happy this is in Martin Scorsese's hands. I would watch a Martin Scorsese biopic of Alf.

Joe could pull it off. I don't know about Willis, that would require some serious make up.

You fear Scorsese will pick DiCaprio. I fear he will Robert Pattinson.

What I think will happen though is Johnny Depp will be chosen to play Sinatra.

Bruce Willis would be good for the rat pack era Sinatra and beyond. He has the cockiness, and with the right hair piece would look alot like him.

    I say ED HARRIS..:)

    Toby Huss.

Kevin Spacey. He's got the talent and (with the right makeup) could pull off the look. It's gotta be some actor from New Jersey since Sinatra (being from there) embodies quite a bit of the Jersey look.

    Ray Liotta

    Dicaprio for ever.

    nathan fillion
  • danney · 6 months ago
Either Fillion or Robert Downey Jr. Both have the singing chops to pull it off.
  • HGMIV · 6 months ago
I really, really, want to say Spacey, but I don't want to sound like a conformist. I mean, he did Beyond The Sea, after all?
  • Abie The Fishman · 6 months ago
Depp or Downey could do the acting part (Downey's edgier in that suppressed rage way, which would be an asset).

Say - how about Casey Affleck for Francis The Younger and Ben Affleck for Frank The Elder...and Nathan Fillion for Sammy Davis, Jr...

Daniel Craig? (Yes, I know he's a Brit but the blue eyes...)

Yet again I find myself loathing Phil Hartman's crazy wife. We were robbed of a great talent too early

James Franco for a young Frank?
  • daviedave47 · 6 months ago
I was waiting for someone to say James Franco...very good...he could pull off that "hang-dog," bags-beneath-the-eyes look that the young-ish Sinatra had. Put him in a modified zoot-suit (with the wide shoulders and tapered waist), comb the hair, lose some weight...and there you go!

The alternative, of course...is the singing sword from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"...he had the look and the voice down pat!

I denounce my previous comment and hereby support this casting decision fully.
  • willmarch · 6 months ago
It has to be the eyes! The actor has to have blue eyes. I suggest Cillian Murphy, who has the bluest eyes I have ever seen.
  • Jules · 6 months ago
Ew no. He's too creepy looking. Like a sewer rat.
  • willmarch · 6 months ago
I suppose he does have that rat look about him. Frank was not much to look at and had a rodent like appearance himself.
  • Pete · 6 months ago
    Jack Nicholson, no doubt.
  • willmarch · 6 months ago
Nicholson? Good god man have you lost your senses? I'd rather see Sinatra play him.
Whoever he picks, and I hope its not a shallow parody of the great man himself then I would say its probably the most important casting decision sinse Jesus Of Nazareth. I can see Decaprio playing him though. He wasn't tall but he was round about the same build.

Daniel Craig has the look and balls for an older sinatra. He is a good actor too. If he could just pull off the New Jersey accent...? It's important to get an actor to who has the depth and complexity of Sinatra.

There must be a great unknown out there somewere, even as funny as it may seem, a Sinatra tribute who has come up thrugh the ranks in life and acting skills, i know it won't happen as its a gamble, but i bet the right one is staring at this now.
  • steve111 · 4 months ago
I just can't wait to see the film, oh boy its gona be good, but at the back of my head is a voice, and it's sayin i bet there's an anknown out there, like a Frank tribute with strong drama and life skills, who just hasn't had the break into the circle of big names, anyways i just can;t wait.

I think whoever cast Ray Liotta to play Frank Sinatra must have been the same blind person who cast will smith to play Mohammed Ali.
