Film School Rejects: Discuss: Who Would You Cast as Captain America?

  • JMoney · 12 months ago
An Unknown or some low level star that will become bigger over the next year or so
  • Nevernude · 12 months ago
Im standing by Nathan Fillion. A lot of people would agree with me. He may not be hollywood A-list, but he has the looks, acting chops and the commanding presence (see Serenity) to hold a Cap movie. Yes, i know he's Canadian but that should have no bearing.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 12 months ago
Come on I'm Scottish and I think Cap should be American. I voted for Leo Di Caprio though and I feel he has the look, chops and star power to make it not only a huge hit but also a fantastic film that doesn't come off as TOO patriotic if you understand me.
  • Mrs Wolfson · 12 months ago
    Justin Hartley..OMG please Justin Hartley
  • Nevernude · 12 months ago
dude, you said "i think Cap should be American". and then you say Leo Di Caprio should play it as he won't make it "TOO patriotic". exactly what do you mean? An American playing a guy who represents America and its values wont come off as "TOO patriotic".....
well you guys had an Australian play a legendary Scottish Warrior. i guess that wasnt TOO patriotic for ya.
  • Nish · 12 months ago
I think Aaron Eckhart has the looks to play the Cap. He has the blonde hair and square jaw. He also has the chops (can we come up with another word, I beginning to hate it how about steaks - thats meatier) to play him. In fact I would be willing to say his Harvey Dent was almost Captain America-esque. However, if he wants to do another comic-book movie is another matter.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 12 months ago
I mean he should be American but it can't come off as a big American wank off or it might be a hard sell worldwide - easier with Barack mind you. Hell He should probably be Cap. Oh and I don't have casting calls on Scottish films. But WE can be hugely patriotic because were a small country with a rather kitschy appeal.

How about Thomas Jane? Just forget about the mistake that was the Punisher and move him from wearing a skull to the Red, White, and Blue!
  • Jake · 12 months ago
I say Jensen Ackles. It could work, somehow.
  • Josh_Radde · 12 months ago
Thomas Jane. I like that a lot actually.

Dude, you just hit the nail on the head,I mean come on he looks EXACTLY like Steve Rogers. He would be beyond perfect.
  • Reg · 12 months ago
I know this might sound random...What about Casper Van Dien? Hey! it's just a thought.
  • daviedave47 · 12 months ago
It seems to me that Mark Valley would be a good choice. He has the square jaw that would work very well with Cap's cowel. His eyes are a little lighter than Cap's but that can be easily remedied with slightly darker contacts. He went to West Point, and spent 5 years in the Army (which included a tour in Operation Desert Storm). He appears to be fairly tall...so height might not play too much of an issue. I haven't seen him fight, but I'm sure with proper training (and fight/stunt doubles), he'd turn out a pretty good Cap.

Philip Seymour Hoffman end of discussion.
  • LostLeo · 12 months ago
    Matt Biedel or Charlie Hunnam
  • Don B. · 12 months ago
Are you serious?Do you really want "Captain Amazing" to play "Captain America"?
  • Homero · 12 months ago
Mark Valley actually seems like a great pick, if you don't believe me, check out his picture on Wikipedia, he looks just right.

Since I didn't know who he was though, my first pick was Brad Pitt, he's got the hair, the acting abilities and it would get more than just comic book or film geeks into the theater. Plus, like we saw in Troy, he can get beefed up enough to intimidate anyone.
  • Chimaera · 12 months ago
A pumped up Eric Dane, Kind of looks like a manly Leonardo Di Caprio
  • BillBrasky · 12 months ago
William Wallace would eat Captain America for breakfast
  • BillBrasky · 12 months ago
I think he blew that chance when he worked on Starship Troopers 6
  • BillBrasky · 12 months ago

  • Reg · 12 months ago
Ha ahahahahaha LMAO!!! Then talking like Truman Capote...but hey isn't Hoffman was picked sometime to be the penguin to be on the 3rd movie?
  • Don · 11 months ago
What about Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson?
  • victor thompson · 10 months ago
no. Goin on a limb here, considering he'll probably retire from football soon again, howz about Brett Fahre??He represents the all-american, ruff n tuff style that ia Captain America and he's done his share of camera work over the years...i just hope if this comes to pass that he doesn't do a Howie Long!! Plus this is a what if..I mean there is a screen test to take...But it is open to everyone...
  • Edgar · 11 months ago
Will Smith, no doubt. With Obama's won on the 2008 election, I think cap should be a black guy. After all, he has charisma, good acting ability, and a star power
  • vk@nyte · 10 months ago
uh no. they have already infered that in the Ultimate Origins comics that the"Samuel Jackson" Nick Fury was the first super soldier before Steve Rogers was Cap. So when they do the film, they are more then likely goin to have that tidbit in the film, so their won't be a need for a black captain america....there was one already.....plus will smith as captain america would be like having robin williams play Blade...NO.Period.
  • dan · 11 months ago
Aaron eckhart hands down would make a great captain america . he would look good and i think he has the acting abillity to pull it off. Before christian bale and robert downy jr were even cast as batman and iron man i said they would be great in those rolls. So trust me i know what im talking about.
  • LoveMe · 10 months ago
Don't forget about Paul Walker, another excellent choice
  • thejoeinator · 10 months ago
Never thought about that, but you have a point. He would need to bulk up a bit, but that shouldn't be a problem. He is young enough. Most of the guys mentioned here are in their mid to late thirties or over forty. I would guess that Steve Rogers age at the time he became Cap, would be around 25 years old.

    Jon Hamm as Captain America!
  • thejoeinator · 10 months ago
All these suggestions are ridiculous. It has to be at least a semi big movie star, not the tenth guy from Band of Brothers. I would go for Leo as the number one choice. I know what everyone thinks. You can't have the dude from Titanic as Captain America. He isn't the same skinny dork from that movie. He's put on some weight and bulked up since then. Has anyone seen Blood Diamond? A decent movie and he shows a violent side. And, take in to consideration The Departed, he also played someone who could kick some butt. That being said, Matt Damon would also make a good Cap. My favorite underdog would be Simon Baker. He has got the All American look (even though he's an Aussie). He's been in some decent movies and I think he could carry the movie on his own. I've searched most of the names listed here and none of them would make a good Cap. Have any of you ever picked up a Captain America comic from the 70's or 80's. That's the look they should be going for. And if anyone suggest a frick'n wrestler they should be dragged out into the street and DDT'd. This is going to be an easy to screw up if they pick some hack, it's going to screw up the whole Cap/Avenger series. Captain America is a hard movie to make believable and sell to a mass audience. I have know idea who they should consider for Thor. That's even Harder to pick then Cap. Please no wrestlers for Thor. Although, they may have no choice. There aren't many 6' 5" well built actors who can actually act out there. And that dude from Scotland, I totally get what your saying. I'm American, but live outside the US. He's not trying to be rude. He just doesn't want the US jammed down his throat. Although, the move is called Captain America for a reason. What about a Captain Britain movie? Hope they don't screw up the Captain America movie! Gotta go, my mom wants my to clean the basement before Dungeons and Dragons. Check out Simon Baker, good choice.
  • Ramone Cazenave · 10 months ago
Mark Valley is the strongest canidate by far.He looks like the WW2 era Cap and he's a fine actor, but still unknown to most of the general public. Most of all he is a West Point graduate, former U.S. Army officer, and a Gulf War veteran. That part of his resume reads like a checklist dream when it comes to the person who will portray the epitome of the American spirit. His age is a non-factor.He will bring adult gravitas and command presence to the role. All the other actors considered are too flaky, too feminine,or too closely associated with other iconic characters they have portrayed.Mark Valley is the best choice.I hope Hollywood gets this one right.
  • essa · 10 months ago

Mike O'Hearn will be a good Captain America. That guys body is what a perfect human will probaly look like. Sure he doesn't have any movies under his belt but Christerpher Reeves didn't either when he started playing Superman. Arnold didn't either when he started playing Conan. He also know knows Judo, this guy would be perfect for the role. He is 6'3, blonde hair, blue eyes, and besides I want to see some good fight scenes and some athletic moves instead of alot of talking. The only thing you have to do is cast someone who is a well-known actor for the villian and a very good script and original and you got a blockbuster. p.s. don't try to tie somekind of love story in it because that is getting old.

Nathan Fillion would make an amazing Captain America! And who better to play that role than a Canadian who has come to live in America! Seriously, America is a giant melting-pot, and Nathan would be a true representative of what America stands for. Yep, I'm an American girl and Nathan has my vote! He is built to play Superheroes, yet his acting range is so great that he can just as easily play the Everyman. He is young, strong, and beautiful. He is in the perfect age range to play a Superhero with depth, power, and gravitas. He is a man's man and a genuine artist in his craft. All this, and he is a wonderfully awesome human being. Nathan Fillion is simply the best, better than all the rest, and he has my total support. Kcat
