Film School Rejects: Discuss: What Was the Best Movie Trailer of 2008?

  • Josh_Radde · 11 months ago
Of this list I would have to say Dark Knight. But most red-band trailers like Zack & Miri, Tropic Thunder and even Semi-Pro were good. I watched the trailer for Slumdog Millionaire like 7 times in a row last week, that movie is infectious.

This wasn't really a big movie, but I laughed so hard every-time I saw the red band trailer for Pineapple Express

Max Payne. The trailer looked fucking amazing. It lied.

I still agree with Neil on this one. I loved Iron Man and Dark Knight but at the same time I thought Tropic Thunder tops my list (but of course everyone has their own opinion).
    1. The Dark Knight
    2. Tropic Thunder
    3. Iron Man
    4. Kung Fu Panda
    5. Twilight
    6. The Incredible Hulk
    7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
    8. Star Trek
    9. Zack and Miri make a porno
    10. Role Models
    11. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I only like the first theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight. The second isn't good at all.
  • Thomas Balkcom · 11 months ago
What about Pineapple Express? Not the best movie but the trailer for it was fantastic.

I take it this list does not just count films released during this year, but the trailer released for it this year (ie: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). If that is the case then how about The Watchmen teaser trailer released with The Dark Knight? As far a films released this year it would have to be The Dark Knight followed closely by Iron Man. I know we are a bunch of tough guys and gals here but what about the trailers for Wall-E and Bolt!?! C'mon give a little bot its due (and all the cash it raked if for The Disney Empire - inset menancing music).

I love the second Dark Knight trailer and the first and second Indiana Jones trailers. Also the Star Trek Trailer- Nimoy version
  • Patrick T. · 11 months ago
Totally agree man. I think the 2nd Twilight trailer falls in this category as well.
  • jimcraig · 11 months ago
Yeah, if it doesn't have to be a film released this year then the Watchmen trailers (especially the first) are being severely overlooked. That first Watchmen trailer is hands-down the best I've since, well, Zack Snyder's last film, 300.

Otherwise, I gotta go with The Dark Knight and Pineapple Express.

At first I thought this was an article about the best made trailers, not the most viewed. "The Dark Knight" trailer which was released December 2007 was fantastic, and I'd go so far as to say that the Batpod/Joker showdown in the trailer influenced the "Hulk" trailer to show off its final fight. Tarsem's "The Fall" and "The Unborn" have really great trailers too. I liked the Harry Potter teaser because it actually made it look like a serious film, the actual trailers make it look like the same old shit we've already seen.

watchmen was by far the most impressive trailer i had seen this year. at least the first trailer was.
  • bigmike89 · 11 months ago
why not Cloverfield?? When that trailer came out everyone wondered what it was and it kept everyone trying to guess what it was.
  • Meepo · 11 months ago
The trailer for Tropic Thunder was hilarious.
  • Mack41 · 11 months ago
Terminator Salvation, Watchmen, the Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder redband, Role models redband
  • Davebaxter1989 · 11 months ago
Definitely The Dark Knight. That had at LEAST a play a day in the month up to release.
  • Jud · 11 months ago
Overall, both Watchmen trailers are the best I've seen all year by far. If we're going on films that were released on '08, than its Iron Man...I couldn't believe how "right" it looked.

Slumdog Millionaire, the trailer itself is a massive achievement. And I have not yet seen the movie, but the trailer made me from "indifferent" to "fucking excited" about the movie. Which is what trailers should do at first place.

Tropic Thunder or the second Iron Man trailer. Those were amazing.
  • Ronnie_S · 11 months ago
Watchmen and the faux movie trailers in Tropic Thunder.

Great discussion of Yahoo's list and thank you for clarifying that it is the MOST VIEWED list although I guess that only makes sense. I do not regularly watch trailers; only occasionally do I check them out and usually to see what all the fuss is about. Living with teenage boys has me hearing moans and groans about Twilight so I did check that one out. They moaned and groaned some more at supper tonight when I told them that the Twilight trailer is on my new page http://www.squidoo.com/movietrailers2008. I would be thrilled if you would visit and comment in my polls about why YOU watch movie trailers. You can also vote for your favorite trailer from Yahoo's list.
