Film School Rejects: Discuss: Should The Wachowskis Reboot Superman?

  • MrBabyMan · 9 months ago
Well, it'll either rock like 'The Matrix' or suck like 'Speed Racer'. I always tend to err on the side of caution. Best not to make it.

The Wachowski's aren't equiped to handle Superman. I'd rather see Brad Bird. The Wachowskis are all flash and no bang.

    1) Wachowskis? Hell no! Give Singer a second chance, I say! He's a good director, he'll know how to make amends.

    2) Brandon Routh IS Superman!

    3) Kate Bosworth was terrible Lois Lane. Kate Bosworth was NO Lois Lane.

This is the most horriable Idea Ive ever heard.

The Wachowskis would, most likely, make a Ratner-quality Superman. Why not let Singer make another one? Even though his film wasn't, strictly speaking, a reboot, Singer did have some exposition to get out of the way before really zeroing in on the story at-hand. Pull a Holmes-esque switcheroo with Bosworth, drop in Beckinsale, and let him try again.

    Well...let's see...good questions...

    1) I think the Wachowskis have it in them to make a great Superman movie...although it would come down to the matter of how faithful to canon they decide to be. I understand that there are many variations to the Superman mythos (depending on who wrote it), but there are a few basic facts which have been (mostly) universal...i.e. he's an alien (Kal El from Krypton), Ma and Pa Kent, Smallville (not the TV show), Metropolis, The Daily Planet, Lois Lane, etc...it is a matter of which direction they want to go with all of it.
    2) As for other directors, you'd need someone like John Favreau or Christopher Nolan...someone who is dedicated to making a great comic-book movie, without sacrificing too much of the material.
    3) Routh? I though he was okay as Supes...he didn't have much to work with in the last movie, so one would hope there would be more for him to do.
    4) Kate Bosworth...who's that? Heh...just kidding...she shouldn't even be allowed in the theater to watch the next Supes movie. In other roles, she can be good...but not Lois Lane.

I got to be honest with you, I liked the last Superman a lot, however I feel like with Batman, the more the franchise re-invent and reboot the less I am interested, pick one freaking actor for god sake, Brandon routh did a fine job, Christopher Reeve was a freaking wimp boy, so I say keep Routh and let's forget the old ones were ever made.

It is rightfully that they should do a reboot since it was that loong for a refresh. But I thought Bryan was going to make a better reboot but that was a bit of a flop.

Christopher Reeve a wimpy boy??? Look up pictures of him as Superman, he's jacked as shit. Routh looks like a gadamn Dolce & Gabbana model.

In my opinion Kate Bosworth should not be allowed to play her again. I don't know what Bryan Singer was looking in her. Brandon is a good Superman but they need to amke the script better so he can have better lines. For The Wachowski Brothers as the directors that I cannot see, I loved Matrix and hated Speed Racer, I don't think I would trust those guys to make the reboot.

The Wachowski's definitely have proven they can create amazing and highly detailed universes, plus control a widely expansive mythology, but on the flip side The Matrix was their own creation and it was fantastic, but Speed Racer was an adaptation and tanked. I believe they have the skills to do it, but they can't be given a free ticket to do whatever they want to the story. Place some boundaries and rules on where they can go and I think they will turn out something incredibly interesting. As for Routh, yes he should stay and Bosworth should go.

The Wachoski's can make a good movie, If by good you mean writing a convoluted POS like the Matrix Trillogy or ruining a great story like V for Vendetta (although I should say that movie was ok for what it was). The first Matrix movie was ok, if not overratted but nothing they have done has been AMAZING. Superman is a stupid superhero anyway. The freakin dude is invincable in every way unless you hold up a green rock and and try to take over the world with realestate scams. It doesnt matter who does this movie, its gonna be mediocre at best anyway so I say let them do it, let them ruin it or make it better. I say Boooooooo! either way.

What is wrong with you? The Matrix just ok? Give me a break. That movie set an action bar, and just about every action film and tv show since has used ideas the Wachowski's created.

V was convoluted? How do you figure? Not only was the story entertaining and to the point, the action was great. If you wanted a full blown V story from the comics you would end up with a 16 hour movie.

Superman is a stupid hero? You dont think its fun to watch a guy pick up a mountain or fly around catching airplanes? Again what is wrong with you? Do you have no sense of fun or wonder?

This has got to be one of the worst posts I've read on this site...ever.

I'd keep Routh. He was a great Superman and just as important Clark Kent.

The Wachowskis would be amazing for this movie. Unlike some people above I know they can come up with great stories. The action in their Superman would be intense.

Neo flying in the Matrix moving so fast he pulled clouds with him was amazing and they would bring that flavor to this movie. I hope this is true and I cant wait.

    Speed Racer was great!

Where were all you folks when McG was handed the Terminator franchise?

It's a reboot so of course Routh gets the boot with everything else. Otherwise people would see the posters and assume it's a sequel and be turned off. How else does WB grab people's attention and say "Hey this is something completely new. Not a sequel and not connected with all the things you hated about SR and dreaded to see in its sequel"? People have to see a new guy as Superman to get the idea that this is a new kind of Superman movie.
