Film School Rejects: Discuss: Is the Apatow Gang Too Young To Do ‘Ghostbusters’?

I love the Apatow crew, but you're right. Most of them are too young.

This would be a big mistake. In 5-10 years they could certainly pull it off, but right now it's just not a good idea. The fact that Harold Ramis has made a cameo in Knocked Up tells me that he would most likely be consulted on any kind of Ghostbusters film, though.

yes, way too young. They should have actors in their 30s...

The older guys like Paul Rudd would be able to pull off the that they are newly recruited Doctor's right out of college. The younger guys, most definitely wouldn't. Maybe, the younger guys, could be interns or something, studying paranormal sciences or other things.

On a side note. I don't know if I want to see the Apatow gang as the Ghostbusters. I like these guys, but it doesn't feel like it's their place to me. I'm sure it will be funny, but in the end, everyone will be saying, "That was good, but that wasn't Ghostbusters."

I don't think anything will ever "be ghostbuster" but I do think That Rudd, Robinson and McBride would be awesome. I think Apatow could make good with refreshing it, they haven't screwed up yet, although they haven't remade anything yet either.

That's a great point. Maybe they could do something along the line of Flatliners where they are still in med school and have been working on creating a vortex to another dimension. They discover it and unleash something that has been dormant since the second movie. It alerts the original ghostbusters who no longer work but still follow paranormal behavior ( a la Ghostbusters 2 but with more time and waiting). The new kids want in having been fans of the original ghostbusters as kids, and the old crew tells them its not worth their time: NYC turns on you even after saving them from the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man. What they have unleashed is bigger than Stay Puft though and though the old guys want nothing to do with it, the newbies have to convince them to get back together, you know, for the kids.

I think this is really the only way the GB fans will accept a new movie, if it's written as if the kids are, say, a franchise of the NY office. A complete remake would get killed by the fans before it leaves the pre-pre-production stage, GB fans are almost as rabid as Star Trek fans. lol But a spinoff movie could work IF it's done well.... *crossing fingers*

i think a counter argument could easily be, They have all the old cast and they train the younger ghost busters that are filling there spots, to me that sounds like theres a lot of room for having the older original actors on screen for like 30% of the film or something and then training scenes etc handing it over to the apatow crew.

I will shoot something if Jonah Hill is a Ghostbuster. If I had to select a new team from this junior upstart league of comedians?

Bill Hader. Seth Rogen. Jason Segel. Then who knows. For some reason I want to say Seann William Scott, even though he's not an Apatow kid.

I'd also like to point out that this makes 2 "Bustin makes me feel good" jokes in 2 days.

I'd love that cast, and they already have Craig Robinson who could take Winston from a token black guy to a meaningful character. On a side note, I wouldn't mind seeing Jonah Hill or Danny McBride playing a different version of Lois Tully (although it would never trump Rick Moranis' role).

It could be great, eh, or terrible... but either way I'm excited.
