Film School Rejects: Discover Revolution with Viva Zapata!

I always thought Viva Zapata was a great blend of truth and fiction - but I can see it being really frustrating for purists who wanted a true biopic. Especially considering that Zapata's life has a ton of great stuff without needing to resort to fabrications. Although, some of his life might be fabrications...it's tough to tell with a revolutionary figure.

And if you think Brando playing Zapata is ridiculous, you should check out Jack Palance in The Professionals. Apparently, they didn't have much leading role work for Mexican actors in the 60s.

I also enjoyed at first. But watching it again while trying to understand why it was made like that, Brando's Zapata seemed like a stick figure in the hands of the creators. He's not ridiculous, just too obviously serving a purpose slightly irrelevant to the real person or that particular revolution.

I think now i want to check "On the Waterfront" which i haven't seen yet. I guess it's a much better Kazan film.
