Lawton also wrote a lot of tongue in cheek scripts like Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Pizza Man, and the irony filled series VIP. He even did the original script for Pretty Woman before it was Disneyed up. So there's good reason to think some of that silliness will sneak its way in despite the presence of PWA. Besides, this sort of revisionist history about original/remakes is so strange. I love Death Race 2000, but it is a sloppy, goofy, C-level movie. It is so stuck to the Corman style, action scene, stop for sex, action scene, stop for sex, out in under 80 minutes, that it almost becomes a joke. While Bartel had enough self-awareness, Corman didn't.

Wimpy wimps! Nwo lapdogs!

Let's get real, the first film involved the New World Order and the assination of the Supreme Leader of Earth.
It was a very insightfull slant.
We had a supreme leader that made the world safe thru oppresion of rights.
The only violence the people were allowed was the Death Race.
It only came around once a year.

This running man theme is a retread, I bet the suits even said "let's give this a Running man angle".

I have to consider boycotting this film....

Contained indeed. Roger Corman films have three simple ingredients that is they are fast, cheap, and out of control. It looks like its not enough of the last two.
