Film School Rejects: David Poland Tells Watchmen Fans to Dry Their Eyes

  • Don B. · 10 months ago
Most of these people who are complaining about what FOX has done are the same ones who will be complaining about how bad the film was as soon as it is released.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
I doubt the film will be bad, but I think I see where you're coming from. Some people just want a reason to complain.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
WE ALL DO! With due respect we all come to conclusions and not think it through but with Poland's logical explanation it does make sense in a way. I do feel that this movie deserve to show in the movie theaters as scheduled in 2 months. Many fanboys (& girls) as waiting to see the creative work and hype that Team Zack Snyder has made. Let's all stop the complints and just hope this will be resolved. I don't care who is the studio going to release the film as long as we get to see the finished product.

I can't blame fox, I am also pissed that they changed the ending. If I could I would start a lawsuit.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
You know I would too but they do have the rights. Face it you'll lose. :(
  • TheGreenMalice · 10 months ago
    Thats what fox is for.
  • Yaanu · 10 months ago
I just want to see the damn movie.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
    THANK YOU!!!

It still seems like the classic kiddie story where " Kid A" tosses his old toy out to play with another one. But when " Kid B" comes along and plays with the tossed out toy, " Kid A" cries for it back... Know Im not the only one who sees this.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
Yada yada can't we all just get along!!
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
I understand the analogy. The counter-argument could be that Warner Bros. knew Fox owned the rights, so why didn't they cover their bases ahead of time, or pay Fox back when they got the money to cover the project? Just a thought.
  • Joshi · 10 months ago
Yes, but if we're to follow that analogy, Fox never actually threw out it's toy, it calmly put it on a shelf to be played with later, and then WB came along and decided it was theirs instead.
  • Joshi · 10 months ago
The thing is, this is the kind of thing people need to hear. I was also like this, blaming Fox, saying it's all their fault and wanting to boycott them to "teach them a lesson" (although what lesson they'd learn I'm not sure...). But the fact remains, this could have been dealt with before production began and the reason it wasn't was because of WB, because they either didn't respond to Fox plainly telling them they don't have distribution rights, or because their legal team didn't pick up on the fact that they never had the rights in the first place.

Okay time out on this bs...
Fox are dicks for not making/showing any indication they planned to make this movie. Someone at Fox must have known how eager geeks would be to lap up a Watchmen movie. I hate Fox.
Warner Bros are dicks for not covering their asses. You don't start a project knowing full well the rights belong to someone else. I hate WB.
I guess all us fanboys can do is sit and wait, praying that Obama intervenes (he can right? i mean he's gonna solve all the world's problems right? right?)

Maybe Alan Moore had a point when he stated he did not want a Watchmen movie made.
  • Shootsy · 10 months ago
Poland's comments make me made because the people complaining are not the geek community. He's making the all too often mistake of mis-labeling NERDS as geeks. And Fox and WB are both guilty... sorta. Fox should have brought this up when Watchmen began production at WB, but WB should've covered themselves. Like WB didn't know Fox had a prior interest...

And for everyone who is upset about when comic books are adapted into movies and changed, just calm down. Written word and pictures do not translate directly to the screen. There are so many things they have to take into consideration like pacing, MPAA ratings, ect. Not to mention they're not just making a movie for the fans, but for people who've never heard of Watchmen.

I disagree with the anaolgy. Fox didn't lend money nor did they agree to release the rights, which I get. What a lot of us disagree with is how Fox waited till WB finished the product an then stepped in and said give us money.

A better anaolgy would be a meter maid watching you park in a spot with folage over the NO PARKING sign, then waiting till you came back to your car and writing you up a ticket.

Maybe it's just me...but I find it odd that someone calling people names like "geeks" would tell other people that they need to act like adults.
  • Edub · 10 months ago
Geeks, huh? Well F you too, Mr. Poland.

Now stop acting so insulted and speaking professionally. You're representing FOX here. Grow the F up.
  • Edub · 10 months ago
    ^^*start* speaking professionally
  • Ratter · 10 months ago
Cinema goers should boycott all Fox and WB films until the matter is settled. That would speed up the resolve.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
Fanboys should unite and start a riot. Then we'll really need some superheros.
