Wow. I think it's true. People don't change much-they all want something new and exciting, but once they realize new means unfamiliar, they shrink back into their comfort zone and shy away from anything that takes effort or a different manner of thinking. Its why many films entertain us, but so few change us.

I know this was posted a while ago, but I was reading it again today and felt like commenting. I have to agree with you, especially about the lack of realism in Marley & Me during the times when the family moved. I have moved a grand total of 5 times, from across the country to across the world. Each time was more stressful than the last. And even though moving causes families strain, the writers failed to depict, even hint at, a difficult transition. I think it's like you said, that they just wanted to portray their characters as being perfect, but they did this at the expense of losing a grip on reality. I wouldn't say it totally ruined the movie for me, (having a friend tell me that the dog died before even seeing it did that instead), but I wouldn't see it again.
