Film School Rejects: Coming Soon: Real Fake Books

Both are potentially very cool, as I love both shows, but it's going to come down to the quality of the actual writing... hopefully they're not banking on folks to scoop them up for the novelty factor and not care about the actual story within. Either way, I'll definitely be checking them out next month.

Yeah, the quality is of concern. Especially, for me, when it comes to God Hates Us All because in the show the book is heralded as this masterpiece and Moody is this writer who put out this book that was just mindblowing then sort of retreated into himself. So if we read this book and it sucks, then what the fuck?

For Heat Wave, because Castle is kind of a campy, funny, best-seller kind of guy, we can be more forgiving of some tongue in cheek humor and camp.

Psst, the first two chapters of Castle's "Heat Wave" are online http://abc.go.com/primetime/castle/ I believe they will be releasing the first 10 chapters online...new chapter posted monday night or tuesday.

It's actually Hank Moody by the way - not Frank, just in case you were wondering, it's printed in big white letters on the picture you posted.

That aside, i just finished reading God Hates Us All and while I definitely enjoyed the book, i had a few issues with it. I would have preferred if they didn't refer to the show in the art for the book, just had it exactly as it appeared in the show, with Moody's picture on the back and everything. The front cover is cool, but yeah it would have been nice, maybe i'm just a perfectionist prick. Also i fail to see how the story they published could have been turned into what we saw as being 'A Crazy Little Thing Called Love' on the show, especially with the scenes that we saw being filmed with Tom and Katie. But i mean, i'm really looking for flaws, Californication is like my passion in life so i'm happy to have something at least. I'd give this release a 3.5-4/5 based on what i wanted out of the release, and 4-4.5/5 for the story, all connections aside. Enjoy it.
