Film School Rejects: Cinema Sleuth: Kate Hudson and the Case of the Collapsing Career

  • ANGRYBROOMSTICK · 10 months ago
Kate Hudson is terrible, overrated, and awful. She needs to go away.
  • Cole_Abaius · 10 months ago
    You forgot "super cute."

I think its time for her to do Dancing with the Stars.

In a perfect world (AKA the universe I would control) there would be a "three strike" rule in Hollywood.
You make 3 box office bombs in a row, you are out of the business. Ktes on her 4th or 5th strike now.
The bottomline is, as long as they're going to keep paying her to make these terrible movies she's going to keep making them. I guess she'd rather spend her time hanging out on the beach with her boyfriend do jour than working on a career.

I can sum up what is wrong with Kat Hudson and her career in general in one word....."LAZY".

Kate is the type of person that has had most everything in her life handed to her. She didn't even need to ask for it since it was there before she even needed it. When she wanted to start acting she had her mother and fathers reputations and agents to hand her movie projects. Never having to look for a role means you will pretty much take whatever comes along, hence why she has made SO many lack luster movies.

hear, hear. I don't see her any different from Paris Hilton. I am sick of spoiled, privileged, whiney rich blonde socialites who easily get an acting role while there are starving, dedicated actors who can't get a friggin break.

You know, I'm going to throw this out there... maybe she simply doesn't give a shit. That could really explain it.

She gets a big check, has some fun with the people on set (often in a gorgeous location that would be a vacation to you and me), makes a piece of crap that will make 20 million dollars in a weekend and please soccer moms and grandmas...badda bing, badda boom.

She's a ditsy California kid raised by a legendary ditz...I find it hard to believe there's a deep brooding theatrical artist under there that people come to expect out of actors. For some people, it's just their job.

Alericc and Andy make good points.
I would have no problem if Kate was doing whatever it is she does onscreen just for the money. There ae plenty of movie stars who make a good living by phoning it in.

I just wish some more actresses would step up. Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johannsen can't do all the work.
  • Nevernude · 10 months ago
Did you just credit Scarlett 'my boobs can get me any frigging role i want' Johannsen with some sort of acting credit?
    Shame on you.
  • TL_is_now_TJL · 10 months ago
LOL I know. I am ashamed too.
I don't care for Scarlett one bit, but for some reason, she's always working. I don't know why, but she is.

I'm sorry did you say McConagay has acting chops? He had a small, memorable part in Dazed and Confused. That's it. As for Hudson, the J Lo comparison is dead on. She will continue to do family and romantic comedies because stupid people love their movie formulas and turn out in droves to see them.

He did pretty well in A Time to Kill, as I recall. I'm not saying he is Al Pacino by any means, but he isn't the worst actor ever.
  • MackB · 10 months ago
Don't forget John Sayle's Lone Star. McConaughey had a pretty good performance.
  • Aleric · 10 months ago
    Or Reign of FIre.....LOL
  • Dale P · 10 months ago
I think we're also forgetting his masterpiece: Sahara.
  • MackB · 10 months ago
While I won't defend Reign of Fire, Sahara was a great popcorn flick. No more, or less brainless than National Treasure, yet Dirk Pitt's hair was less distracting than Ben Gates'.

I'm fully prepared to take the bullet for what I'm about to say:

I think KHud is good at what she does: slapstick. I actually saw 'Bride Wars' and if you have too, you know how much she out-does Anne Hathaway in that film. Who is the better, more versatile actress? Hathaway. I have to say, 'How To Lose A Guy...' isn't bad for its genre. And it was a box-office success. I thought KHud's performance in 'Almost Famous' was good, but nothing special. Anyone remember how she was poised to win that Oscar? And then Marcia Gay Harden (deservingly so) came out of nowhere and won..... I could ramble on forever... yes she's made a thousand horrible films in the new millennium, but Hollywood is fucked and we all know that. Keep doin' what you do baby.

And if anyone saw Marisa Tomei in 'Top Girls' on Broadway last year, you'd know that she is incredible actress.
  • Andy · 10 months ago
Yeah, I am with you about Marisa Tomei. People crap on her about the whole Oscar thing...that it was some weird mix up or something. I don't know about that really...but if she didn't deserve it then, I think she's earned it in the last...what, 16 years or so.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I've had a big thing for her since the early 90s. So yeah, grain of sodium chloride)
  • saul · 5 months ago
she earned it in the last 16 years!!! as matt dillon would say you been eating retard sandwiches again

I have to disagree with you, even though Kate is not the best actress she has not made that many trash movies, it seems you do not like comedy genre's. But "how to loose a guy in ten days" is probably the second best comedy I ever seen right after "The Hangover". But then again I have to say that Australia is better then both of these, but I totally disagree with that Kate's career is going down, I guess "Bride wars" sucked, but that's is pretty much it.
