Film School Rejects: Boondock Saints 2 Becoming Real, And Why That’s a Good Thing

Unfortunately, very little of Hollywood matters if you're a reeking douchebag, so just because he's not a good guy anymore doesn't mean he doesn't deserve, or won't get, work.

I also loved the original, I quote lines from it to this day; although I am worried about what this sequel has to offer, I will surely watch it when/if it is released but it's going to tough to match the original.

Dafoe was awesome; damn you Duffy for not getting him back some how.

duffy is a fascinating character, possibly more interesting as a study than his movie(s). but come on, if assholishness = undeserved breaks in hollywood, 1/2 the folk in this town would never have a career. i take a lot more exception to a director arrested for, say, i don't know, videotaping an underaged boy giving him head and then getting a bunch of work, including a disney film*, than i am to some hell-bent egocentric maniac on a tear.

Its funny that so many people are into this movie seeing that it is about two gay lovers that fight crime..
  • JMoney · 9 months ago
hmmm, i must have missed that part, or was fraternal twins a metaphor for being homosexual?
  • blckmanjew · 9 months ago
exactly it's a blatant metaphor, i thought more people knew this..

I'd be hard-pressed to think of a movie worse than Boondock Saints; it's a bone-headed scrapheap of outdated "cool" shorthand without any substance or true originality whatsoever. It is, however, very useful in drawing a line between people truly interested in good, thoughtful cinema and those who just like things that go bang.

I think that's a little harsh--to the audience (I can't disagree with your opinion of the movie). There's a place for Boondock Saints on a video shelf, imho, and it definitely falls under the category of "mindless fun", but I don't think a person who's enjoyed it is automatically precluded from also enjoying good film. Sometimes you want filet mignon, sometimes you want In N' Out Burger.

rocco is back on a dream sequence...not from the dead

i think you are seeing things that you want to see, every close relationship between two male characters is not a metaphor for homosexuality

Well lets only hope there will be some better action in the sequel... and I'm not talking about butt sex

I find it pretty presumptious that you think you know someone based on a couple of hours of edited video footage. I'm not saying he isn't difficult, there is obviously a reason he hasn't directed anything, but to judge the guy based on one documentary seems ridiculous, have you ever met him? met anyone who has worked with him?

Not to mention, why do you care about his personality? I'm sure Hollywood is full of asshole directors. as long as they put out a good film then who gives a shit about how they act around their co-workers. And if you watch the clip where he answers a ton of questions from various websites, he seems to be humbled by his experiences and know he fucked it up the first time around.

I agree the Rocco thing is kinda stupid, but I'm pretty sure his contribution is only in flashbacks, which has been common knowledge to anyone following the development of the sequel. so either you didn't do your research for this article, or you purposely didnt address the flashback scenario so you could rip Duffy for having Rocco in the movie.
