Film School Rejects: Boiling Point: Tasteful Nudity

It just makes no sense that in the 21st Century, adults can't watch a naked person get hacked to bits by the grinding teeth of a chainsaw without someone on some board calling it obscene.

I have to completely agree with you. In the 80s horror and boobs went hand in hand, it was part of the fun, even Carrie had a whole locker room shower scene of nudity. I hate how Hollywood has become prudish these days in the horror category.

I really don't care who gets naked or ends up naked. Big deal. Though Renaissance paintings are not boring to look at. Question, are only hot girls allowed to flash some boobs? Cause ugly girls will flash 'em if you want. Of course you gotta cast what people consider ugly in movies first.

Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with the actresses. Nowadays, actresses aren't often taken as seriously for future roles if they take off their clothes for a part, especially in a B movie or one that doesn't have much success. And even in things that are more successful, like HBO shows, they're remembered for what they explicitly revealed, like 'the girl that Vinnie f*-ed' or 'the strippers in Tony's strip club' rather than anything that's going to get them any future work beyond further invitations to show their goods. Alot of 'hot' popular actresses, like Krista Allen for example, have complained about such things. Early in her career she took her clothes off in extremely graphic B movies and claims she's never been able to escape it. Though we red-blooded males, in the 18-35 demographic, want to see more, slaver for it actually, it's ultimately a matter of business in the end. Hollywood puts the red-light on for us and waits for whichever would-be starlets to answer the call. It seems though, that a lot of actresses feel it's a bad idea to sell their bod if they're interested in more than a quick buck and want to be around for the long haul. Afterall, of all the nudity you've ever seen in movies, I'm sure there are a lot of breasts that were more memorable than the names of the girls who owned them.

What happened to suffering for art? =)

I think there is a difference between 'the stripper' in a club and an actual character showing boob. No one cares about the stripper because she is background. That actress can leave that off her resume, it wasn't important. No one will remember her for that. And some like Krista Allen, she got her start because she was hot and she got typecast as being really hot. Worse things have happened.

I'd agree that there are some girls out there who want to hold out on showing the goods for a bigger career, but I think nudity is pretty accepted. Anne Hatheway, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, tons and tons of people have shown the full boob. Whether or not you advance is probably more about how well you act. And in Sorority Row, I'm sure that Audrina Patridge wold have shown us some! She's already posed nude.

    Gimme the boooooobbbiiiiieeesss.

I don't think nudity hurts your career. I think bad acting hurts your career. Of course if your hot like Megan Fox, bad acting doesn't matter and the public must suffer with it. So I'm most likely wrong in that theory. Helen Mirren and Kate Winslet, both Oscar winners, appear nude in almost all there films, excellent actors. Though they are British and they don't take nudity as seriously as Americans do. But Halle Berry won an Oscar for a movie she was nude in and it didn't hurt her chances at winning or getting acting roles. Krista Allen only complains now to show good face and because she is just plain I don't know. I remmeber when she was on Days of Our Lives and in an interview said she was okay with her past soft core films, saying they got her where she is. That was a few years ago and I guess after she dated Clooney she did an about face. She's still working and really nobody cares.

Sorority Row was a good movie.
