Film School Rejects: Boiling Point: Nanny State Absurdity

I also glamorize violence and guns, which is why I'm banned in the UK.

what if 18 people WANT to see the posters? would they put them back up?

This is solved quite simply. Every single Hollywood studio should now make a special "UK only" poster for every single movie. That poster will contain head shots, in rows, of the actors/actresses in the movie, and the text, "These people are in our movie. Feel free to use the internet to actually find out something about our movie and see the kinds of harmless images that even the puritanical American nanny state won't protest, so long as your government isn't censoring that now, too. Thank you." If they can all agree to do it for every single movie, it might have some impact.

So, let me get this straight ... there's complaints and automatically you declare it must be from the "same church group?" Like a church group would plan a trip to the Bijou to see Wanted?!

    What an utterly bigoted statement.

Got to say its a bit wrong to bash Britain for this and yet live in a country that has a certain MPAA. At least here is a wholly accountable BBFC and rating standards that don't differ from film to film. Maybe in one tiny instance like this you can make Britain seem very prudish but it is but a small instance. I mean Wanted was heavily marketed here (McAvoy only gets bigger) and as opposed to censorship it seems more like "oh well lets just take them down to stop them moaning" which doesn't make it right but it's hardly passing laws. Lastly Britain and England aren't inter-changable, picky I know but what the hell.

It's Britain though, not America. There is a reason we had a war with them and threw them out of the country to set up our own. It's a little piece of paper called the Constitution, something we have and they don't. I am amazed at the amount of people who think they can walk into another country and expect the laws and rights of the people to be exactly the same as America.

As always, a few people complain and next thing you know, they're taking christmas trees out of public places because a fanatical minority got offended...

How about those of us who are offended by mindless political correctness? Isn't there a place we can complain about that?

The real question will come if they ban the Zack & Miri poster as well. I mean, not that this isn't retarded enough, but let's say for a minute that they don't ban it.

Sure, guns kill more people than Seth Rogen in other parts of the world, but the 'overtly' sexual 'nature' of the Zack & Miri poster is way more controversial a subject than angelina jolie and a pistol. At least I would imagine so if you were some kind of uptight, puritan redcoat.

From a "let's impose our will" government standpoint, wouldn't banning one and not the other cause a terrible double standard? And wouldn't banning both making you look like a completely ass backwards totalitarian government? Do they still teach the theory of evolution in classrooms there, or are they back to burning witches?
