Film School Rejects: Beowulf

I asked myself the question why I should see Anthony Hopkins as an artificial 3-D character (cartoon-izing a supposedly serous scene) when he would look be so much better for real? Most of the sets in the movie would also look better real, so why animate them, seriously? The motion capture and details on the male faces is stunning, but the female faces are not much better than the ones in "Shrek", sorry.
3-D worked for me on the last, dragon-slaying part very well. But Angelina Jolie looked like a cheap cybersex-puppet, sorry. The high-heels were hilarious. I can see that most good-old fashioned stunt men will be replaced by virtual actors, but for close-ups and even creating CG movies: I prefer to see a real face. if you do CG, then do it where it shines (like sci-fi, all Pixar-movies or subtle beauty such as in "Pan's Labyrinth") my 2 cents

The line "I am Beowulf!" pretty much sums up the flaws of the movie. It tries to be cool, but just comes out sounding dorky.

However, I you are a heterosexual American male you will love this movie.
