I took a look at the trailer and immediately wanted to see it, which I will be doing in six hours.

In one edition of "A Christmas Carol" there is a scene where Scrooge questions the Ghost of Christmas Present about closing the baker's shops on the seventh day. (Perhaps Dickens was suggesting that the poor had no means of baking in their homes, and depending on the baker's shop, they ate cold food on Sundays.) However, Dickens does not use the phrase "men of the cloth", which seems a senseless and unnecessary swipe at the clergy.

Regarding Scrooge being shrunk and chased in the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come scenes, I can only imagine that someday there will be a ride at Disney called, "Ebenezer's Wild Chase".

Dickens was highly critical of the church and he saw obligatory Sunday services as an exploitative way to keep poor people controlled on the only day they did not have to toil. This point of view is consistent with his criticism of the class system throughout "A Christmas Carol".

My point is that someone inserted the words "men of the cloth" into a scene from Dicken's work. Those words are not in any of the editions I have checked. The fact that Dickens was critical of the church and critical of limitations on Sundays is well established. But to take a minor scene from "A Christmas Carol", change the wording and include it in the movie suggests someone in the film production has an ax to grind.

You lose all credibility when you refer to Elf as "a pitch perfect holiday film."

That aside, your review is solid. Wrong of course, but solid.

what's wrong with Elf? I thought it was an excellent and often funny Christmas movie.
