Film School Rejects: 9 Actors Who Deserve a Comeback

  • Bob Saget · 5 months ago
I totally agree with Christopher Lloyd. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was on tv yesterday and I still can't believe how good he was. Seriously... Back to the Future, The Addams Family, even Camp Nowhere the guy is just good. He need definitely deserves a chance.
  • RyanSquid · 5 months ago
I would love to see Michael Keaton get a second (or sixth?) wind.
  • Debbie · 5 months ago
Number one on my list is Skeet Ulrich. He is a wonderful actor and draws me into whatever role he portrays. He is in the movie "Armored" that will be in theaters Sept 18th, but he needs to have a lot more roles than he has been getting!
  • Lauri · 5 months ago
Skeet Ulrich is an incredible actor who has never been given the credit he deserves for his talent. I for one would love to see him on the big screen, or the small screen for that matter.
  • Libia · 5 months ago
You are right girl,e want Skeet back !!
  • Dan · 5 months ago
    Rick Moranis???
  • Barb · 5 months ago
Some please bring back Jericho! Skeet's best so far. what a great show! I agree that Skeet is underrated.
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
Jericho is dead. done. over. move on.
  • Frank · 5 months ago
I agree with Mickey Rourke. Someone should give Eric Roberts another shot/
  • Andy III · 5 months ago
Eric Roberts was in the biggest movie of last year...The Dark Knight. That's a pretty big second chance.
  • Andy III · 5 months ago
Good list, except it should read..."8 actors and deserve a comeback and one her deserves to be sent to a 3rd world prison". Pauly Shore?! You sir, are mistaken.

For my pick I'm going to go with Gary Sinese and Aidan Quinn, who I used to think was one person, but come to find out that's not true. Both of these guys set me at ease for some reason.

I like Skeet's understated acting style and the fact that he becomes the character he is portraying. Most of the A-listers like Brad and Clooney are one-dimensional. Skeet reminds me of Josh Brolin in that you just see him as the character in the movie, not an actor you recognize. I like Gary Sinese and Vincent D'Nofrio too.
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
Josh Brolin. there is a guy who isn't seen such. hopefully Jonah Hex will change that.
  • Darshan · 5 months ago
There are people on this list like JCVD that I can live with, but I simply don't care about.

But Jon Lovitz and Pauley Shore?!

Did you forget what happened when Jon Lovitz tried to step in for Phil Hartman on News Radio? Proof enough he's exactly where he needs to be. Eric Roberts deserves to be on the list more than Jon Lovitz, and he's THE MOST talented Roberts clan member there is.

And Pauley Shore? That simply defies belief. Get you some more Cocoa Puffs?
  • Andy III · 5 months ago
Here here...I am so happy It's a daily joy that I don't hear references to 'the weasel buuuudddy'.

Here here...I am so happy It's a daily joy that I don't hear references to 'the weasel buuuudddy'. That was insanely grating.
  • Anrkist · 5 months ago
Jon Lovits did one of the funniest skits I've ever seen on SNL. Dressed up as the Devil on People's Court. He always felt genuine... which goes a long way for me in terms of liking an actor.

As for Pauly... well, his time has come and gone. He did a small cameo role on Futurama... but that's all I can recall him doing in recent years.
  • Henrik89 · 5 months ago
Jon Lovitz deserve a comeback just for beating up Andy Dick.
  • JMoney · 5 months ago
Jason Patric, Sleepers is a great movie, and Geronimo is severely underrated. Let's all forget Speed 2 exists and give this guy another chance.
  • curlybean · 5 months ago
We NEED more Skeet! His portrayal of Jake Green in Jericho was phenomenal, not to mention every other character he has ever portrayed. He is an amazing actor and deserves a BIG break. Wouldn't you love to see Skeet back on your TV screen every week? I know I would.
  • bastardjackyll · 5 months ago
    Christian Slater!
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
is currently starring on a tv show. so i think you could call that his comeback.

and did you ever see his My Name is Earl ep. priceless.
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
I stand by Pauly Shore 100%.
  • Ratter · 5 months ago
Leslie Nielsen. Dude was one of the greatest spoof actors, and in a world where spoof pretty much now sucks, I think we need him more than ever to be back in his game.
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
    Agreed.
  • Funkyjebus · 5 months ago
    Johnny Drama, Victory!
  • Random Man · 5 months ago
    Where's Seagal???
  • Yasser · 5 months ago
Some of those aren't working because of their really bad drug habbits and reputation they got for working with directors. But Chuck Noris and Pauly Shore could stay hidden, Pauly Shore is actually a great stand up comedian and owns a club or two I believe so he is better there. But you did remind me of what happen to Cuba Jr. he is such a great actor and just vanished for no reason (that we know of).
  • You Suck · 5 months ago
Are you legally retarded? The only person on that list which deserves to be on such a list is Val Kilmer.
  • Ari Gold · 5 months ago
    Matthew Modine
  • Dave · 5 months ago
David Carridine would have been top on this list (for me) but sadly that cant happen now. The man was an interesting actor. By the way, Pauly Shore all the way.
  • mmmmmmmmmm' · 5 months ago
reginald vel johnson. no more city cop roles in movies?

    Sam Niell!

Jurassic Park was awesome and he was great in it.

On that note Jeff Goldblum talks hilariously.
  • Cole_Abaius · 5 months ago
Dave, you'll never get him back in movies. Neill is like me - he's a digger.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 5 months ago
Well nonetheless I'll do my utmost.
  • Reebee7 · 5 months ago
In our debates I saw your comment here and had to tell you I agree. I really like Sam Neill. He made Jurassic Park III watchable, he was great in Merlin and The Triangle as well.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 5 months ago
Why thank you I'm glad to see that you are a decent human being who doesn't resort to namecalling and calmly states their point. I may well disagree with you on a lot of things but I do respect your opinion and your right to state it. I simply enjoy a good debate.
  • Reebee7 · 5 months ago
Oh good debates are the best, so long as people keep their cool. I'm not going to get impassioned over this either, because as I say, it's a matter of belief.
  • Damascus · 1 month ago
Neill was fantastic with Jurgen Prochnow in In The Mouth of Madness. That movie scared the crap out of me when I was younger.
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
Sam Neill never left so he can't come back. it just seems that way cause he went back home to the UK and most of his work has been there. and most of that has never shown here. although he rocked it on the Tudors.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 5 months ago
    Sam Neill!

Dan Aykroyd, Sean Flannery, Frederick Lehne, Chuck...

I also want the following actors to actually have a big screen breakthrough soon:
Jensen Ackles, Katie Cassidy, Jim Beaver...
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
Fan of Supernatural and Harper's Island? I like Jensen Ackles a lot and Jim Beaver has been a favorite of mine since Deadwood - if you haven't seen him in that, you should.
  • shorofsky · 5 months ago
Oh yes, I loved Jim Beaver in Deadwood! That guy is amazing. I'm totally charmed by Katie Cassidy. She's so beautiful and she's really intense in Harper's Island. As for Jensen Ackles, that guy is so funny! He should not be typecast for stupid horror movie remakes, man. I'm fine with Jared padalecki doing cheesy remakes, but Jensen should be given something to actually work with because he can actually act.
  • Waleed Al-Telbany · 5 months ago
Jean-Claude Van Damme should be ALWAYS on the big screen. I don't know why the producers cannot see that on his fan sites? More than 200, 000 in a week asks for that... checkout yourself!
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
I'm with you. I even saw Universal Soldier II and The Order in theaters which were pretty much his last widely released movies.
  • MrDeath · 5 months ago
Carl Weathers needs to be brought back. Stop hanging out with Tobias and get back in the game!
  • Ape tooth · 5 months ago
I know he's seen life on TV, but I would like to see Charlie Sheen back to spoofing movies, hot shots was great, and so was Scary Movie 3.
  • Biz · 5 months ago
Strange list, at least according the priorities- Probably thelist should be longer than nine.
  • Dumbfounded · 5 months ago
Pauly Shore?? Jean Claude Van Damme???? Neither of them have EVER produced anything but complete and utter crap. You have the WORST taste ever!!! Your opinion on this topic -- plainly worthless!!
  • RobertFure · 5 months ago
Here is your homework assignment, watch the following movies and then come back and thank me for letting you in on all this awesome.
Van Damme: Universal Soldier, Kickboxer, Blood Sport, Time Cop
Shore: Jury Duty, In the Army Now, Encino Man, Son in Law

If you don't like those movies you're obviously not very cool.
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
now now. different tastes. never Jean nor Pauly has done anything of critical acclaim. their stuff is more of the pure entertainment realm. some folks go for that, some don't.

doesn't make either of you right or wrong
  • liquid terminator · 5 months ago
pauley shore and jon lovitz have nothing to "come back" to. they were both in 80s and 90s shit. they have no good body of work and their humor wouldnt fit today's apatow/mcay style at all. theyre totally out of style and irrelevant. i agree with van damme, snipes and kilmer thought. always enjoyed most of their movies.
  • Damascus · 1 month ago
There's always room for other styles of humor to emerge. People will still go and pay to see physical comedy in a movie, Paul Blart is an example of that. Also compare Paul Blart to the movie Observe and Report, the first exemplifies the older style of humor and the latter is more like an Apatow movie. Which did better? And honestly which was funnier? Observe and Report felt disjointed and the plot was lacking in almost every category, pacing, dialogue, and on and on. There were a few funny parts, but they were few and far between and they wasted great talent wanting to get more cursing in. I actually don't mind cursing at all, but when it replaces the entire dialogue then it's not real writing. CB4 was filthy, but it was hilarious. All styles have a place, as long as they are given the proper support from their producers that is.
  • kidrock · 5 months ago
JEan claude van damme should get a comeback..
he was the actor star of the 90s... and he still rules
  • HGMIV · 5 months ago
Here's the comeback you've been waiting for.
  • ferreson · 5 months ago
First, I find it interesting that not even one woman has been mentioned in consideration for a possible comeback. And I wonder if that is because the sentiment is that 'after she's lost her looks, what good is she'. Which of course isn't actually true.

I think the important thing to realize here is that what makes a comeback work, like Tyson, Rourke, or even the massive return of Alec Baldwin to popularity, is a Re-Invention of themselves. Not just a return to the same old thing they've done again and again before. Even Sly in Rocky and Rambo knew to add age and texture to the scripts. Leslie Neilsen doing spoofs, Sam Neil in J-IV (or would it be 5?), Pauly and Lovitz in lame comedies, or Van Damme, Snipes and Norris in martial arts action flicks would all be terrible ideas. Just like an old woman in a bikini. No one really wants to see that. They have to offer the same things we loved in the past but with consideration to realistic expectations of what modern audieces care to see from these folks who probably faded out for legitimate reasons.
  • lucascott · 2 weeks ago
agreed. so here's your homework. create a list of 9 women worthy of a comeback.
  • James NomadRip · 5 months ago
I agree with the list. Seriously what happened to Cuba? The guy is a fantastic actor. Ever since he did his memorable Oscar speech where he didn't mention all the people involved with the movie, I haven't seen him in anything decent. I wonder if he got blackballed for something?
  • John · 5 months ago
Rutger Hauer! If Michael Caine can make a comeback in his elder years, why not Mr. Roy Batty?
  • asdfghj · 5 months ago
    SAMUEL L JACKSON!!!!!!!!!
