    You nailed it. An eerily scary movie for grown-ups and kids alike.

    I don't know why Charles Laughton never directed another movie -- this one indicates he had the gift of great directing. It's also Mitchum's best work.

    This is probably one of the best movies that Mitchum was in, and he was in a lot of great ones. Combining the preacher image - one of safety - with the threat of child abuse and murder is a genius way of destroying the sensibilities of any audience.
