Film School Rejects: ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ Remake Starts Filming Next Year

  • RobertFure · 10 months ago
I look at Nightmare exactly the same way I look at Halloween and Friday the 13th and even Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These films all started great and have near and dear spots in our hearts. But as they went on, they started to suck. Jason Takes Manhattan? Please. I'd rather have an awesome fresh start than another tepid sequel.

I talked to Brad Fuller and he's a legit dude. While I'll miss Robert Englund as Freddy, it's time to make the Nightmare Demon scary again.

I'm getting use to the idea of Robert Englund giving up the role of Freddy, especially as I've recently revisited a few of the past movies. Feddy did become pretty cheesy towards the end, not to mention the movies on a whole were pretty bad. If they pull off what they promise, no more corny jokes and flat out terrifying nightmares then I'll happily watch. If they screw it up? Well, I'll have Elm Street 1 & 3, which are my favorites.

I had the opportunity to speak briefly with Robert Englund at DragonCon back in September. He had a "wait and see what they come up with" sort of attitude concerning the remake.I do remember him saying they should completely change Freddy's look and not have him in the red and green sweater ,but maybe wearing a pair of coveralls like he was a school janitor or something like that.I don't know if deep down he really feels that way,but he did do a good job of trying to calm down the angry fans when the topic of the remake came up in the autograph line.

    Well, this seems totally necessary.

It will be interesting to see a remake of this classic. I think they should keep the green and red sweater. As for borrowing from the other movies, I`d rather see all new concepts in the nightmare department.

I am so frakkin tired of retreads of movies! Was Englund good as Freddy? Of course he was. Do I want to see a remake starring Tom Cruise? (You know that might be interesting at that). Come on, get a new idea, take a crapshoot, see what sticks to the wall. You guys know the drill.

Im horrified and will definitely stay away from the theatres when released. I saw one of this series when I was 4. Needless to say I've had a legitimate fear of Freddy Krueger ever since. And after reading this article, I found I wet my pants. Excuse me, I'm going to lock myself in my room til this blows over.

I am huge fan of the series & huge hater of rebots or remakes or whatever you want to call these stale stories of old ideas by hack writers. I for one say no thank you if one Robert England is not involved . I mean kool a Jason where he finally runs & it looks just like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Hollywood just has no fresh ideas & at least their finally learning comic book movies are big draws, but then they go & want Will Smith to play Captain America. It won't happen & he is an good actor, but just the idea of it just shows how desperate this movies are becoming.

They tried reimaging Freddy in Wes Craven's New Nightmare and I'm guessing it wasn't that great of a success since the series went idle for a long while after.
Remakes are lame and ruin the chances of another sequel. Look at Halloween, Rob Zombie destroyed any chance of them picking up from a storyline that was being built up since the first sequel (which answered a lot of how/why questions and still had a lot more to elaborate on.)
I disagree with people who say they'd rather see a remake than a crappy sequel. I'd much rather see nicely done sequel than a crappy remake who's goal is to squeeze out a bunch of cheap scares aimed at a fanbase built up by the originals.
All I've seen so far are bigger and more powerful bad guys who kill with a lot more gore. And you can really see the writers' and directors' creativity and originality that they bring to these types of movies.
Jason running, Michael Myers being 8ft tall and raised by a white trash family... I can't wait to hear what the "original" take on Freddy will be!

I don't know what the fuck they are thinking. Robert is Freddy. Jason wears a mask, Texas Chainsaw Killer wears a mask, Mike Myers wears a mask. Freddy is just latex glued to Robert... You can't just put it on another person. If it truly isn't Robert as Freddy then I wont see it in theaters. Why fix what wasn't broke...

I cannot believe that anyone would even think of replacing Robert, he IS Freddy Krueger! and why the hell would people be angry about the idea of a remake? I think it's a wonderfull idea, simply because that means it's a whole new movie that i can watch with my favorite movie killer/dream guy in :P and even if it's not Robert playing the role, i'll still watch the movie because it's not just the actor i care for, it's the charcter i love aswell, but it'll be way to disapointing if he doesn't play the role of Freddy, because he IS Freddy, you know what i mean? and another thing, what's the problem with Freddys jokes? i think that without his crazy humourous comments, he wouldn't be the Freddy we all know and love so dearly ,and those jokes made him memorable and it also made him very unique and somewhat more cruel compared to other horror charcters, it just adds to his character, and i dont think they should change anything about him at all, not even his clothes, because it just wouldn't be the same.

This is James Gilks (owner of SerialKillerCalendar.com). Let me start by saying that I love Robert Englund. He is a talented actor and a treasure to the horror industry. That said, I really hope that he is not cast as Freddy in the new Nightmare on Elm St remake. I understand that this is practically blasphemy in the horror fan community. It is tantamount to saying that Hellraiser 1 was slow and poorly made (which it is but thats another story). The truth is that Freddy Kruger has the potential to be one of the most terrifying and truly lasting characters in horror movie history. He is a serial killer pedophile with knifes for fingers that can get to you at your most vulnerable (when your sleeping). This is pure nightmare fuel (no pun intended) and put in the right hands, this franchise could be reborn as something extremely horrific that will stand the test of time. Now, Robert Englund brings a great humor to the role and helps to dull the edge of the atrocities on the screen. I love this and the original Nightmare on Elm St series is one of my favorites. But is that really what we want? Do we truly need the horror and sheer disturbingness of this character desensitized by one liners and cheep visual gags. I honestly don’t think we do. I am hoping for a gritty, in your face realism that paints Freddy as the monster he really is. I think we would be far more impacted if the film makers drew their inspiration from real life pedophile serial killers such as Albert Fish, Peter Kurten or Carl Panzram. What we need now, in these cold and uncaring times, is a Freddy Kruger that doesn’t pull any punches. We need truly dark and devious creature who can transform our once terrifying bogyman in to something that will really give us nightmares. And, unfortunately, I just don’t think Robert Englund (who I mean no offense to) can bring us this.

Well, that’s just the opinion of someone who runs a company devoted to selling serial killer merchandise so you can take it or leave it. I hope you can all stop by SerialKillerCalendar.com to pick up some morbid merch (including the new Serial Killer Magazine, Serial Killer Trading Cards and Serial Killer Action Figures. I know, its a shameless display of self promotion but really, I have to justify reading up on Batman Movies while I am supposed to be working somehow.

Its crinimal that this is happening!
I can remember seeing the original and the best nearly 25yrs ago it was a classic as we all know
"Billy Bob Thornton" playing "Freddy Kruegger, I don't think so yeah sure he is good in comedy but don't think he was the best choice for this film
Hollywood and the film industry have run out of ideas and they feel like going back to classics and screwing them.
Remakes by large are inferior films unless they are done very well.
Sorry to say not seen much of that lately.
I guess I will stick with my old DVD copy of the classic

hmmm, next they will remake Aliens. and robocop. and then after a few years they will re-remake nightmare. and then they will re-write the bible, and and 're-imagine' that.
in closing, nightmare on elm street SO does not need to be re-made. its fucking scary, bloody, tense and classic and will withstand the test of time long after michael bay is dead.
    thankyou

The movie is totally gonna suck! Robert Englund IS Freddy Kruger and no one else could ever even come close to being him. Without Robert Englund the movie is just not gonna work. What a waste of time and $$.
