i think so,you know an indie comedy with rookie crew being nominated is cool!it says:the door is open for newcomers.

See, I'm not quite sure if you can call this the "year that comedy got smarter" in the year that saw Meet the Spartans. And don't get me wrong, I LOVED Juno, and I'm sure that it winning the best picture prize will only add to it's box office, (as well as the box office of the rumored Arrested Development movie) But in all honesty, I think that in twenty years we're going to be remembering No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood.

Well, I have to agree with emad AND rwiggum: if Juno does win best picture, it would mean that the academy is opening the door for untraditional directors, BUT I believe that Juno is the kind of oddball movie that won't be remembered as TWBB or NC4OM will be. Nonetheless, I think comedies tend to be underated just because tears are usually valued more highly than laughter, which is completely WRONG. If the academy gives juno the best picture award, it would not mean that the movie got lucky: it would prove that making people happy is art in itself and that comedies can deliver a message as effectively and smartly as dramas (with the advantage that everytime you think about a comedy with substance you smile unconsciously).

I have never understood the ivory tower that drama gets - especially the idea of films that will be remembered decades from now.

Last time I checked, for every Deer Hunter there is an Animal House. For every Schindler's List there is a Blazing Saddles. For every Forrest Gump there is a Forrest Gump.

Plus, you can fake drama. You can't fake being funny.

As much as I love "Juno," I still think "No Country" deserves the award.

With that said, however, I certainly wouldn't mind IF it won.

It sucks that 2 great movies like Blood and NCFOM came out the same year. I could def see the votes getting split and something like juno or atonement taking this. But if we are honest, everyone knows that Blood or NCFOM deserve it. Blood for me.
