Great feature Neil. You know I just looked up both the King of Kong and My Kid Could Paint That on the online Ebert and Roeper archive and for both of them, the same guest critic says "This is my favourite movie of the year." Unfortunately for me, I live in the UK and it's nearly impossible to find either of the two docs.

Neil, I gotta know the 15 documentaries that made the list. E-mail them to me if you get a chance. I certainly expected My Kid Could Paint That to get an Oscar Nomination with the way critics were raving about it. I also expected The King of Kong (99 freakin %!) and In the Shadow of the Moon to have a fair chance at a nomination. If there are 15 documentaries better than the ones you have listed, then it has been quite a year.

Interesting, I've only heard of three of those titles that made the cut. The Academy doesn't know what they're doing.
