Why does the robo-cop (in the trailer) have the hoverbike, yet James Tiberius Kirk have the old school wheel version?

Kirk has an affinity for antiques. You see him as a child joyriding in a classic Corvette. In Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, in his apartment, yo'll see an array of ancient firearms and other objects.

Interesting point however, in the original series episode "a piece of the action" Kirk had no idea how to drive a car.
